now that fall is here I have gotten to thinking about picking up a moped this winter for use this next year. I know pretty much nothing about them and would like some advice on what to buy. I don't need something that needs to hit freeway speeds as most of my driving is around the city. Where are some good places to look at buying one from? are there any motorcycle dealerships that sell ones for a decent price? I am looking to spend 2-3k tops.

Moped: 30mph on level ground with rider, 49cc or lower, advertized as 50cc.
Scooter: 80cc will do 50-60mph, 150cc will do 50-75mph depending on make/model.
Super scooter: New 400-650cc maxis do 100mph+, anything over 50cc requires cycle licence.

I've been riding a 150 Honda for years, does over 70mph and over 65mpg, freeway onramp is a breaze.
I've actualy added 4 speakers and a CD player, Garmin mount and has lugage rack and truck, love it.

Craigslist, buy brand name the rest are junk, no Korean crap. $1500-2000 will buy a nice rider, $2500-3000
will buy an awesome ride that will do 100 and last forever.

Oh and I should have plugged the Honda line, in my sig is pictures of my "bagger".
Honda has set the bar for everyone to copy, my 85 has stuff other manufactures only adopted recently.

I sold a member here my old 78 Columbia 49cc moped, had great luck with it and many miles but
limited to 40mph but 100mpg is great.

russ is fairly accurate. i had a 49.9999999999999999999 cc Honda Ruckus, it did 40mph. if its under 50cc you dont need a motorcycle license. honestly, if you want to go above 40mph just get a small motorcycle. if not, there are used scooters/mopeds everywhere. i had a few after the ruckus, a yamaha zuma, and 2 other off brand japanese/chinese/korean ones. most of the stuff on them was all the same. had good luck wiith them all
