I have a GE side by side fridge/freezer and I am getting puddles of water under the freezer side on the floor. Upon inspection I found water dripping down off the "wire brush looking things" onto some sort of coil that was glowing red hot this morning:

Dripping off here (melted ice?)

Down onto this part and it sizzles from teh cold water hitting the hot "thing"

Now this afternoon after work I open it up and find everything frosty again.

I pulled the bottom tray out to find an iceberg in the bottom but it is also leaking water out onto the floor.

What the hell is going on with this thing???

Well with that response " CALL A FUCKING SERVICE MAN YOU CHEAP ASS " <--------- slightly joking....

Red hot thing could be a Automatic defroster, or the fan that moves the air across that coil is shot and the compressor is still running at some insane temps. I have never seen copper glow like that EVER, there are many other things such as a Breaker or Compressor that will trip 1st until anything glows......

Not true and i dont mean to argue, but my old fridge did that when the dumbass that put a warranty compressor in it left the water line loose and it stopped the fan from running, the outer shell of the fride was even hot as shit.

you need to defrost the entire freezer. had that happen numberous times when I rented and the freezer wasn't defrosted. take the whole inside of the freezer apart and get all the ice out. either let it thaw on its own or use a blow dryer. the drain line is frozen which is why it is leaking onto the floor. 10 to 1 this is the problem. Also clean coils on the back of the fridge and the drip pan itself. there is always going to be water in the drip pan, it evaporates on its own, thats how they work. if it gets overfull from drain being frozen, it won't evaporate properly.

isnt there usually a cover for the condenser to keep shit from hitting it and bending it all up like that? I agree that the water dripping issue sounds like a clogged drain pan. let the entire thing defrost then clean out the drain pan in case of any debris clogging it.

Thanks guys, I will thaw shit out and watch the wife or daughter give it a thorough cleaning.

There is a cover panel over all of that but I couldn't get very good photos with it on ;)

Nothing, he just didn't realize Jim Gaffigan was a BCM member.
