My fiance drives a 2002 Cherokee, 4.0l, and the trans is going out. Anybody know of a place to source a rebuilt trans for less than the $2300 the shop is trying to get for one? Or someone that'll rebuild this, or do a core swap? Any way to get this done for under $1500 or so would be peachy.

I'm assuming that they're going to have to pay the same price any other shop would, and they're going to want to make the same markup, and charge the same labor.
Is there a reason you think they're going to be cheaper?

Brent knows Jeeps very well. With yours being a WJ, he is very knowledgeable with that generation.

As far as price goes. They are very reasonable. You won't know unless you ask/call.

I sent a message, just not very hopeful that he's going to be able to do anything with price. Its got 140K on it, so its hard to justify sticking a bunch of money into it.

140k on a jeep is nothing! 3 members here owned the same one at different times and when it was sold again, it was rocking over 350k miles and still running strong!

if it was mine, I'd agree... apparently I have to get the repair cost under the trade-in value to convince my fiance of this. She got quoted 3K for a rebuilt, and 2K for a used trans, so it looks like her parents are going to help her out on a trade in.
