Something I just do not understand, at all. This boggles my mind.

WHY do cretin chevy “car guys” always go off and say “LS7 lifters” for instance this LT1.

People at work would say it too. I was curious one day and crossed the part number in the catalog. Sure shit, GM is a corporation and likes to save money. Any “V” roller cam engine has the same lifter. 3100- 4.3V6 and all V8’s are the same (not displacement on demand lifters).

And its not like the lifters are cheep, like 20 something each.

So, why do people think, or where did they hear that “LS7” lifters are better?

Just seeking some understanding

Ask someone. And then come back with your cross reference. Would be a good study in human nature.

at one point they were different i believe. then when they were designed and worked well, they were put into use in ALL engines that fit the same bore.

best bet would be to look in a 8-10 year old GM parts catalog for lifters for an LS series engine and see if it is still the same number

I think the "caddy racing" lifters are the hi-po version of the standard lifter. somwhere after 2002 they did upgrade these to a fully enclosed roller wheel and the material and or metal finish treatment changed though.

I always thought and heard that the LS7 lifters were different?

Try running this part number at work:

12499225

Even if the lifters where different 8 years ago (and I doubt it, my 4.3's I took out look the same, 94) its not 8 years ago!

I asked someone at work that got new lifters in his TBSS, he said he was told it by a guy he hangs out with, this same 'guy' got in a argument with my old boss about getting his LS2 LS7 lifters because they are better. I am starting to think that its just BS from forums.

Hell of a way to wast money though. (or make it I guess, sell "LS7 lifter!" on ebay...hmm)

The LS7 lifter doesn't even look like the old LS1 lifter and certainly not the same as the lifter in a 1987 IROC.

However, they are a direct replacement (fit in the same hole, same pushrod length). You should get new lifter buckets though.

The LS7 lifter weighs less (not much) but more importantly can keep oil in them at higher RPM.

The Cadillac lifter (circa 2005) is different yet, slightly lighter but also has its oil holes higher on the lifter.

My lifters in both my 2006 LS7 and 1994 L35 look exactly the same. Same part numbers in catalog as of a year and a half ago.

I have not looked in to this what ever RPO code Cadillac lifter.
