I remember changing the fuel filter in my SHO way back when, and got gasoline on that stuff. It pretty much dissolved it instantly. The risk, however, is you're working with GASOLINE!! lol

I tried a wire wheel...DO NOT DO IT. It heats it up and shmears. I heard Easy Off and a putty knife works.

Im doing the same right now, Im gonna try a propane torch and a putty knife. I think If I heat it up to where its pliable I can scrap it right off.

Torch and a scraper is the way to go. I have a nice torch head that mounts to a regular 20lb propane tank with a nice long hose if you need to borrow it. It has a wide flame.

I have had areas get oversprayed with WD-40 and it took it off. Try spraying a area in it and letting it soak in overnight and see.

I had the same nasty, vile, gross and PITA under coating. The only thing that removed it was a torch and a putty knife. Once I got most of it off I could remove the residue with brake cleaner. I had to get it all off since it will kill any chance of a good weld. It is toxic when burning. It made me sick for a day or two.

+1 on not using a wire wheel it will smear it and fling small bits of everywhere. And then you have more to clean up. I would take the offer of a rosebud tip torch head and a good resperator.
