Some of you might recall last year that I did a charity road rally down route 66 to help out the Stephanie Spielman Foundation, a fund to help find a cure for breast cancer. For those of you who dont remember, I am part of a group called Rally North America. They are a non profit organization that puts on road rallies (sort of like the one lap of america) for different charities. This year we are doing one on the east coast that will take me and my girlfriend from Virginia to South Carolina, with stops at three different race tracks including Darlington. Last year, we raised over 10,000 for the charity from sponsorships and donations. This year we are doing it for the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund.
The Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund was established officially as an independent not-for-profit organization in 2003. Through 2005, the Fund provided close to $20 million to families of United States military personnel lost in performance of their duty, mostly in service in Iraq and Afghanistan. The Fund provided unrestricted grants of $11,000 to each spouse and $5,000 to each dependent child. In addition, Board member E. Roe Stamps personally funded an additional $1,000 to parents of unmarried service members as an extension of that program. All payments were coordinated with the casualty offices of the Armed Forces, to ensure that all families received these benefits. In 2005 federal legislation substantially increased the benefits granted to these families. With the needs of these families now being supported much more substantially, the Fund turned to the next area of the military community needing help: our wounded warriors.
In January 2007 the Fund completed construction of the Center for the Intrepid, a $55 million world-class state-of-the-art physical rehabilitation center at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. This Center serves military personnel who have been catastrophically disabled in operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, and veterans severely injured in other operations and in the normal performance of their duty. The 60,000 square foot Center provides ample space and facilities for the rehabilitation needs of the patients and their caregivers. It includes state-of-the-art physical equipment and extensive indoor and outdoor facilities. The Center is co-located with two 21-room Fisher Houses that house the families of patients.
The rally, which takes place the week of July 17th, will be covered by over 2,000 different publications and media outlets, including Amos Automotive Enthusiast Magazines.
Here is where BCM can help. Like last year, I am looking for any kind of donations to the fund. All donations can be made to the charity directly via their website:http://www.fallenheroesfund.org/ If you choose to donate, all that I ask is that you put "Rally North America" in the comments section, so we can add it to our running tally.
I am also looking for anyone would like to get exposure for their business. Yes this is a sponsorship, however, what I am looking for is anything from a donation to the charity, to car parts, to help getting the car ready, or even for being existing sponsors of BCM. In exchange, I will put your company's logo on the side of the car, and I will do every thing that I can to get your business exposure in the different publications that are covering the event. The decals will be on the car all summer, and will be seen at car shows, GLD, and on other rallies that I am doing this year as well (including one in Wisconsin, the Cheese Wheel 450-a rally that helps out childrens hospitals and the fight against ALS). So far I have CJ Pony Pony Parts, American Muscle, Hagerty Insurance, C&M Performance, Penn Tech Developments, and Car Domain.com. Any help will be appreciated!
