Hopefully you can see the vid:

There is still an issue with the starter...can't quite figure it out. It really doesn't like turning over the engine, yet it should be a "high torque" starter with little trouble turning it. The timing isn't too far advanced or anything that jumps out at me. There is plenty of juice from the battery too. It's hard to describe.

I'm going to pull the starter and cover shield and see if I can't figure out what is going on...

The build itself is fairly mild...with room to grow if desired.

408ci race balanced
compression calculated 10.5:1
Heads- Fully ported eddy's upgraded to 2.08 valves. Flows at just shy of 300 cfm at .500 lift, 310-ish at .600 lift.
HYD roller cam-228/236 @ .050, .561/.572 lift, 109 degree LSA
Holley vac secondary avenger carb, 770cfm
1 5/8th full length headers
MP electronic ignition.

I'm running the double valve springs currently, so I can upgrade to pretty much any HYD roller cam made for these things if I want too in the future. I selected the cam and carb due to the weight of the vehicle along with the torque converter it already has (2500rpm stall) and the mildish gears (3.55's).

I have in my possession a Holley 850HP...so in the future I could upgrade to a cam in the 244 @ .050 range, 3500-4000rpm stall TC, plus the aforementioned carb and swap the gears to 4.10-ish for a serious drag truck...but for the foreseeable future, it's going to be a nice cruising but strong truck :thumbsup

But it's nice...no leaks, great oil pressure (75psi w/ 15w40). Have to figure out the starter issue and get exhaust to be ready for the summer thgh :headbang

Starter pulling to many amps, or bad ground?

That truck sounds evil for just a mild build up. Those Dodges were always cool little trucks.

That truck sounds evil for just a mild build up. Those Dodges were always cool little trucks.hard to say...it sounds funny, almost like the teeth aren't mating correctly. But that doesn't seem to be the case...it does turn it slowly as if not enough current is there. It's weird...

i might see if I can get a vid...I'm pulling it tomorrow w/o the inspection plate and seeing how it mates to the teeth/etc. Maybe check the wires. Maybe get someone smarter than me to look at it, lol.

Did Chrysler starter motors require shims like some GMs? Maybe your teeth are too tight in the mesh.
You could also try the Japanese starters some of the Mopar engines used in the 90 and 80s. Denso, I think.
