The CCW bill came out of the joint finance committee today. Mandatory permit and training. The permit will cost you $50.

Guess I'll mail off my Utah Permit forms now. Hopefully that will exempt me from Wisconsin's training. I guarantee the days of a $75 training course are LONG gone.

Expect $100's of dollars for training and months of waiting.

It wouldn't be a bad idea. Its still a bit of a gamble. There's no word on how they're going to handle residents with out of state permits.

Expect $100's of dollars for training and months of waiting.Haven't you taken Hunter Safety?

From the NRA email I received today

Some of the key provisions of the amended PPA include:

- License issued to Wisconsin residents at least 21 years-old who submit a completed application (no fingerprints), pass the same background check required of firearm purchasers, pay a total fee of $50 and provide proof of training using the time-tested Florida training model.

- Department of Justice (DOJ) is to issue or deny licenses within 21 days. Licenses are valid for five years.

- Training requirement is satisfied by completing a firearms safety class taught by an instructor certified by a state or national organization that certifies instructors or by completing a hunter education program. Exemptions for those who have served in the military and law enforcement or who have held carry licenses issued by other states are available.

Man I can't believe the horrible hoops you have to jump through. They are really keeping you down, 50 whole dollars,21 day wait , hunter safety class counts for the training. How will we live with this oppression?

 Well skeezicks, that's just the way it works sometimes. I really don't have a problem with Constitutional Carry, this just wasn't the time for that fight in this state. You gotta crawl before you can walk and walk before you run. We get a law that won't cost a fortune and will eliminate a majority of hassles from LEOs for permit holders, should you be questioned about your "bearing" of arms and it isn't political suicide for the people that are responsible for actually getting this passed. But I know you will just keep staring at that one tree and be sad that it didn't produce the foliage you expected. The rest of us will be looking at the whole forest with a smile on our faces. And, for the first time, guns on our hips (or wherever) without fear of major law enforcement hassles. :thumbsup

I'm assuming that the DNR would have it on record that I took a hunter's safety class decades ago?

Where did you find it on the site? I took it in the mid 80's. I'm old enough not to even need it to hunt :)

I'm curious about this. So basically they are requiring shooting like Florida does. So our Utah ones we just spend the money on won't be any good. I should have sent in the Florida one instead, right? Or will I be able to take the Utah permit along with my hunter safety certificate somewhere and get the Wisconsin permit? I'm confused. Seems like a waste to have taken the Utah one at this point in the road. Am I wrong in this thinking? I mean if WI needs shooting proof, it will be just like the FL permit, and in FL, the Utah permit is no good. So the Utah permit will be null in WI as well, correct??

Damn if that would be enough to count here I would just spend the half hour tonight to do it. Though I do need to take hunters safety anyway so maybe that's how i'll do it
