View Full Version : How is bail amount set?

Guy I work with has a $50K bail set on him. Says charges pending in the inmate lookup. I have an idea what he did but ill wait to see if im right before i say anything.

Just looking for general knowledge.

Only in states that allow bail bonds / bondsmen / bounty hunters. WI is not one of those states. Our bail is just lower.

$50k? Holy fuck, he must've killed someone.

I work at the jail and $50K isn't that bad....I saw a guy that was accused of theft by a contractor (greater then $50,000) who got a $20K bail....it's based on the charge, but also how much they want to keep you in jail and how much $$ they think you have access to. If they want to keep you and you have access to $100K then they'll set it at $150K etc.

I've seen 50 for 4th and 5th offense owi, substantial battery, repeat offender manufacture/deliver charges, anything 100,000 or above is attempted manslaughter, violent crimes......

no such thing as manslaughter in this state..All we have is intentional, reckless and negligent homocide (each in 1st and 2nd degree)
