Does anybody know if it's possible to rig up some sort of spark knock warning system on a non-computer motor? Provided you can mount the knock sensor to the motor, can you somehow connect it to a warning light that goes off when it senses a knock? (We're talking on an Olds 455 here)

I don't really need it to actually retard the timing, but just let me know when it senses spark knock so I can stop doing what I'm doing and fix it! The last motor that was in my car had obvious detonation issues, but I didn't hear anything inside the car.

You can build your own using a GM knock module, its the little black thin box on a TBI v-6 or 8. The GN guys have plenty of schematics or look up "kaspers knock sensor" on google. Its a wise thing to make.

You can make your own. You could even go so far as to put Electronic Spark Control on it.
