On my 72 monte i have a set of 295/50/15's someone sold me on the cheap and said that thats the biggest i can fit on my rallies and in my wheel opening. I have searched and have found stuff for goats and chevelles but no direct link to the monte carlo's most chevelle guys say they will fit in there cars so not sure.

Just dont want to get them mounted and stuff then they dont fit.

I would measure the width of the new tire with a tape measure then find the center point of that width and line it up on the center line of the tire on the car. You can work your way around the currently mounted tire and see if you will run into anything with the new one.

That's a big tire. I have a 275-60-15 on the biscuit and that tire is a tight fit...and that's a full-size car

When ordering tires I found that it really wasn't how wide the tire was but its diameter.

The way I did mine was to place the front of the car on ramps to load the front suspension. Then place jack stands under the rear axle. This will load the rear suspension. Just like your going to weld in subframe connectors on a unibody. Remove the rear tire, place the "tire in question" on to a floor jack and raise/postion at ride height. This will help in finding center and will help in back space measurements of the rim. I like this method because with a few pumps of the jack handle you can simulate suspension travel. And find out if really rolling the wheel wells will help.

On my car, with the worlds tightest wheel wells a 275/50 will fit but a 255/60 will not with the diameter, 275/50 will fit only with a 5.0" backspace and won't fit with 4.5 due to leaf spring contact. The 255/60 is a 27" tire and rub on the fender lip even with rolling them.
