Heavy trigger with a long pull. I did not like mine. There's a reason you can get them for under $400 almost anywhere.

The M&P is no Sigma. The M&P seems like a decent gun, the Sigma is garbage. Stay away, FAR AWAY from the Sigma. I could bore you with how many came in for warrenty work when I part timed at Gander, but instead Google it, there's some fun reads about Sigma's out there!

M&P is by far a better gun, but still has the long trigger pull that I did not like.

I have one in the .40S&W.
It's extremely reliable. I have well over 1,000 rounds through mine and not a single FTF or FTE on just about every kind of ammo they make for it. The down side is the trigger pull makes it uncomfortable to shoot more than 50 rounds without taking a long break. Your finger WILL hurt. Grips are just o.k. Sights suck and the gun is only average at best for accuracy over 15 yards, and I'm sure the trigger has something to do with that.
With that said, there is no doubt in my mind that this gun will go bang if I need it to, no matter what I feed into it.

I agree with Lash, I have had zero problems with mine. I have the girl version though, 9mm.

The trigger pull seems to be the biggest complaint from what ive been reading online. I guess all I can do is let him know what i've found and go take a look for our selves thanks for the input guys.

My Dad bought a Sigma at the same time I bought my Taurus Millennium Pro. 2006ish maybe? I think we each paid $300. Both .40, both have around 6,000 rounds through them. His jammed once on a handload we bought at auction. Mine has never jammed. Probably 3,000 rounds through each have been handloads.

My only complaint about the Sigma are the stamped-steel parts.

M&P is by far a better gun, but still has the long trigger pull that I did not like.My M&P pro doesn't have a long or heavy pull but it is a Pro. :)

Sigmas are usually on sale for $299, MSRP is only $395. So you're not going to get a match gun at that price range.

That's just it he's not looking for a match gun just something that goes bang when the trigger is pulled and that he can go to the range with.

Have him try one out, if the trigger pull doesn't bother him, its a decent gun.

I like mine in .40 Cal. Trigger pull seems ok for what it is. Buddy at work has one in 9mm and has had trigger issues from the word go. Mine was free, so I have no complaints!

I recently got one in .40 and took it shooting a few times. The trigger was so long and hard that I ended up shooting low all the time... so I did the trigger mod today. Now it has a light pull (still long though) but it's much more manageable. I have been having a LOT of problems with jams though (before trigger mod, haven't actually fired with ammo it since I did it). I think it's the ammo I use. I started off with a couple boxes of Wolf that came with it, had a bunch of jams. Then I went to some Aguila and I'm having even more jams. Today I cleaned the mags so I am hoping that will help.

Any ammo reccomendations for it? It's not a big deal at the range, but if this CCW passes, I plan to carry it, but not if it's not going to be reliable.

Yea he got the sigma in a .40 with a stainless slide as for ammo recommendations I use winchester white box for range ammo in my taurus .40 and winchester pdx1 for sd ammo. I've heard that the wolf stuff isn't very good so I've stayed away from it.

I agree. My only compliant was the trigger. I did add a Hogue generic grip to the one I had and that made holding it much more comfortable for me. I do have giant hands though!!

The slide and it's internals are interchangable with my G23...probably why Glock is sueing them.

S&W And Glock Settle Suit
The Glock vs. Smith & Wesson lawsuit is history. After nearly three years of legal posturing, S&W has agreed to a multimillion dollar settlement and a slight modification to the Sigma Series Pistols.
To no one's surprise, Glock sued Smith & Wesson in early 1994. claiming "tortious acts, including without limitations, patent infringement, federal unfair competition, common unfair competition and deceptive trade practices."
S&W returned the salvo with "We firmly believe the suit to be totally without merit and will act accordingly."
Glock also sent an ultimatum to its dealers, giving them 15 days to decide on which to ca,y, the Glock or the Sigma. "If your decision is to continue to distribute Smith & Wesson products, your contractual relationship with Glock Inc. will be terminated," read the message.
In the end, Smith and Wesson agreed to "remove the surface located below the sear in the Sigma Series Pistols, which Glock contends is a positive guide means, and Glock has agreed that such a modification would resolve the patent infringement claim."
While no one in an official position is willing to say how much S&W will pay Glock, informed sources put the figure at between $5 and $8 million.

If you want a less expensive, good quality semi auto polymer pistol, look into the Ruger line. Lifetime warrenty and the things are reliable as the day is long.

I would say just try different stuff until you find what you and your gun like only other practice ammo I've used is federal and it seems to shoot dirty.

I used to use WWB and now mostly use Federal for range ammo, both from walmart, because it the cheapest around

I've been seeing Magtech around lately pretty cheap. Don't know how dirty it is though.

Well we put 100 rounds down range today I will say the trigger does take some getting used to but overall seems like a decent gun.
