I'm looking for Aluminum or other alternative ideas for 1/4" thick 16" x 16" Plates for our Boat Piers up north, the current pads are 8" x 8".

Idea is larger the pad less it will sink :thumbsup

Speedy metals has good pricing BUTplate is very $$$$

Any ideas, help or directions where to go would be great !

How many do you need and how much did speedy quote you? Would you just need the plates to be carbon steel? Cold rolled or hot rolled? 1/4" alum. would be expensive as hell, but if you want it I can check. Just flat plates, nothing rolled, bent, or welded? If you go with steel you could probably just epoxy coat it.

The cheapest steel plate will work and all we need is flat stock, nothing more. Off the top of my head we will need 8-12 pieces.....

we used some old field plow discs for the pier stand bottoms. I'm not sure where they came from. Fleet Farm?

Old ones from a farmer would be even cheaper

Interesting, do you know the approximate dimension and if those blades are perfectly flat...???

Their 16 inch and have a little cup to them. We've had them on our pier for over 10 years and they work great with the sandy bottom, they don't sink in at all.
You might find them at tractor supply for less

Their incredibly strong because of the dome shape.

Thats a good price. I'd go with that.

The only potential problem I can think of with the tractor blades is securing them to the current 8" x 8" feet, they are flat as can be.....

1 1/2" diameter steel pipe would be a lot lighter than a 8"x8". just sayin.

The legs are 1.5" steel pipe.....

cut the 8x8's off and weld the plow disc's on. You'll end up with lighter legs:thumbsup

For 16" x 16" .25 thick steel plates Brad was quoted $21-ish each from Midwest Metals. I think that is a good price but we are still shopping for the best option.....

This is a factory made galvanized pier and I do not want to cut the feet. The feet have 4 - .25" holes from the factory we will use to secure the larger pieces to. Bolting the larger pieces on opposed to welding will also allow us to change something if the future if needed.....
