What kinda lid you rockin? I just picked up a Shoei RF1000. They call the grafics "Artifact," I wanted something neutral and ended up matching my jacket and gloves; but at least it wont look stand out against either of my bikes. Quiet, comfortable, stylish. Picked it up a few months back for a good price. Not super nuts about it when I'm riding my 748, hunched over with my my head up in the riding position of the Duc my grille is a little closer to the chin bar than I like. And with the visor open on the first notch to keep the fog away it lets a shit ton of air in and blows it right on my mouth and up my face into my eyes. The HJC I had before this the visor could be cracked just enough to keep the fog away and not freeze your face off.

What you got?

Scorpion EXO1000. Custom painted. No pics of the paint. Love the helmet. Internal tined visor, cheek pumps for perfect fit. A little on the heavy side but otherwise love it.

I had the EXO 1000 and loved the flip down sun visor but hated the cheek pumps and the paint peeled in like 3 months. Now I'm rocking a gloss black EXO400

Maybe find something you like that fits then order it?I usually buy my bike stuff, for mine and the wife's bikes, from Ride in New Berlin. Good service and good prices. My Helmet I ended up getting from Sportbiketrackgear.com from their closeouts. Also great service and quick shipping.

Gloss black HJC FS-15, but I'd really like to get a Scorpion EXO 500 with the sun visor like the 1000 has.

Shoei RF-1000... Nice lid. I paid around $300 new a few years back. My grilfriend got an brand new closeout rf-1000 for something like $85.... It's size xxxs though, lol.

I usually buy all my gear online. Kneedraggers and compacc mostly. I helmet needs to be tried on first though or have a return policy.

Shoei TZ-R helmet. Nothing too fancy. May look to upgrade it next spring to something newer. Isn't a rule of thumb to upgrade your helmet every 5 years or so anyway?

Why would I spend money for different liners when I can get a new helmet that fits from the get go. There is also a pump on the inside for your cheeks. It cost me nothing to exchange.

Bell Vortex in white. Probably will upgrade in the future but for the price it has nice features (chin baffle, neck roll, nice venting)

http://www.thebellstore.com/images/Helmets/Vortex/bell_vortex_white.jpg

I also put on the transitions shield, which is pricey but awesome. Goes clear in low light and dark in sunlight. (much like self tinting perscription sunglasses)

-stew-
05-13-2011, 08:19 AM
What did you give foe the transitions shield? I have self tinting prescription glasses and am not nuts about them, but for reasons that I don't think would be an issue on a helmet. A regular tinted shield costs more than I wanna spend, so something tells me I'm not gonna like the price of one!

I wear an arai vector haga replica(fire and ice) as well as an arai profile riptide. My fiance wears a shoei rf1000 breakthrough. Arai is the only helmet I have ever put on that I just had to have.

Anyone know if you can wear glasses and use the internal tinted visor on the Scorpion EXO1000? Wondering if it would hit the glasses when down

I have this exact helmet and I got the tinted sheild and chin guard. So far I like it, could use a little more air flow when its hot out but I like it more than my old brain bucket. Nice lid for under $100 brand new.

I picked up a Scorpion EXO-500 the other day in flat black. It's a great helmet for the money. I almost pulled the trigger on a Shoei Qwest but decided to go check out the Scorpion first. The Scorpion isn't as nice as the Shoei, but for the money saved it was worth it. VERY happy with the purchase.

It's got the flip down visor, inflatible cheek pads, fully removable liner.....

Picked it up at a scooter shop downtown Milwauakee. $200 out the door tax and all.

^^^^Yup from them the 400's were a great price but sold out of my size in all models http://sportbiketrackgear2.homestead.com/geronimo.html

FYI they run a little tight but loosen up after you wear it a few times. I believe L XL and 2XL are all the same shell and it is cheaper to buy new pads elsewhere in the size you need than Pay for return shipping and shipping of new helmet if you get the wrong size. Mine loosened up but I was checking into it when I first tried it on.

I've got an ebay cheapie...KBC TK-77

http://www.helmetsetc.com/detail.asp?product_id=TK77-IMPACT

I think I paid like $60 brand new for it. It's the silver/gunmetal one in the above link. I originally got it for drag racing, then I bought a bike.

Looking to upgrade sooner rather than later, I love how it fits and how comfortable it is, but the wind is absolutely horrendous. It kinda beats up from behind my ears and makes them hurt. Going to try plugs for longer trips, but a helmet upgrade wouldn't hurt either.

Scorpion EXO700 Rivet : http://www.ridersdiscount.com/channel-images/61/61249/320x320-FULL.jpg
Very comfortable, pretty light, breathes ok for a cheaper helmet. Love how easy the Scorpions visor lock system is. Fully removable liner, fog-free shield.

Icon Alliance Speed Cretin : http://www.king-cold.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/2009-Icon-Alliance-SSR-Speed-Cretin-Helmet-Green.jpg
Comfortable in a less tight sort of way. Very easy to hear what's around you. Heavier/bigger than the Scorpion but breathes better. Better liner as well, also fully removable. Fog-free shield.
