The "clouds" around airplanes you see can be created at far less than super sonic flight, due to a climatology phenomenon known as adiabatic lapse.

I am not a 'plane or flying person' but watching fighter jets travel at hundreds and hundreds of miles per hour is amazing. I remember watching the Blue Angels in Milwaukee 7-8 years ago and hearing one sonic boom. A few people around us were talking like morons saying a bomb was dropped or a jet blew up, that was entertainment in itself. I talked to a guy involved with the show about the sonic boom and he said the pilot will be reprimanded. He said in Milwaukee the pilots have strict orders not to exceed the sound barrier due to a possibility of breaking windows on buildings downtown.....
