from the overproduced quality of the vid (ie, seamless editing, ominous music, etc) it looks to me to be a viral marketing campaign.

Kind of a give away is the username of the youtube account: abravenewsworld

This is a play on an old futurist/sci-fi novel "a brave new world" which has been adapted in the past twice now, and is apparently up for a third remake in 2011: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1242420/

Now, to all those shots, some were pretty obvious (spotlights, weather/light effects) and some were less so, perhaps hoaxes.
