That I would be a DSM owner...

Just picked up a 1997 Mitsubishi eclipse spyder GS-T, I did an even trade for my 1997 Jeep Cherokee. This eclipse is un molested and is bone stock with 177,000 miles. It seems to run very well and doesn't leak any fluids as far as I can tell so far. It does need a little TLC, the interior is very dirty, the power window and door buttons are not in place right and the buttons push down inside the door panel when you try to use them making it difficult to use the window or door lock buttons, it also sounds like the window is rattling around inside the door when the window is down, when the window is up it doesn't rattle so I will be looking in to that as well.

My plans are to keep this thing bone stock, fix it up a little and make it nice again, drive it for a little while and sell it later. I was a bit nervous as I knew pretty much nothing about DSM's except DSM stands for Dont Start Modding lol. Anyone know how reliable these engines are in stock form and what the usual life expectancy is for these engines in stock form? Photos are attached, the photos below is how it was before I brought it home and began cleaning it out. This is the first import I have ever owned but I think this will be a fun project.

i like the droptop..The only reason id get one would be the girl and kids love them.Im actually going to look at a 94' 5.0 with a cobraR front end and a few performance parts, the guys looking for a heads up trade for my cougar. How many miles were on your jeep and what was its condition.? Im not to familiar with DSM, people are gonna laugh again.is the GS-T turbo? and is it the 2.0? From all the little i know and heard,be easy on the turbo if it is turbo, they have lube issues at higher miles. But id put on parts for driveability like CAI,turbo timer to help keep the turbo lubed(i think its called a turbo timer) and little things like that..

@ 177,000mi it isn't worth worrying about a turbo timer.

There were 148,000 miles on my jeep Cherokee, as I said before it is staying all stock all work I will be doing is repair work only. I'll then sell it, just wanted a project car I can do a little work and drive for awhile before selling or trading for something else.

Do scheduled maintenance and keep the timing belt assembly up to date every 60k miles unless you want to destroy the engine. If you need help with this or any questions answered, email me, these cars are my specialty and I have a wholesale account on Mitsubishi parts. tmzperformance@gmail.com.

Right, the t25 on those things isn't worth it's weight in scrap metal.

As far as i'm concerned a turbo timer is a waste of time/money on any car, more of a ricer mod. Just don't run the thing hard before you shut it down and you will be fine.

A/T's don't get crank walk :)

As far as the window rattle, roll it half way down, take door panel off, there is a small square metal bracket at the bottom, inside the door, one 10mm bolt holds it on. It is basically shaped like this |_|, and you need to squeeze the sides together with a pliers a bit, then bolt it back on. Easy fix.

The power window controls, well, the mounts are notorious for breaking inside the door panel. I zip tied mine inside, as it is the best fix short of buying a new door panel.

My auto lasted 177k on the original transmission.

I'd replace all the coolant/water/radiator hoses, and the heater hoses asap. Do them all at once... there's like 8 or so total off the top of my head.
ONLY use Diamond ATF from the dealer, the trans is picky as fuck.
Spark plugs are a 5min change.

Never go through a car wash unless you want a good interior soaking.
