Looking to get new drag radials for my car. Looking at Nitto and BFG. I know how the Nittos are over all, however I dont know how well the BFG drag radials wear or how good they are in the rain (incase I get stuck in the rain). Any one have any experience with this?

I just found out about the discount at work on the BFG. Since I just put the 17x10.5s back on the car on saturday, I wasnt in a real hurry to get them.

just run a street tire and save some money and be safe in the rain since this is your only car

I think the BFG's are fine in the rain, we had them on Liz's car and put a quite a few freeway trips down to Kenosha, and down to Chicago, and back and forth with the car caught in the rain, if you aren't stupid you should be fine.

You would have owned a car with some balls under the hood if you had put this much time and effort into your blower purchase.

REALLY?

everytime i've had experiance with M/t Dr's in the rain/freeway it gets into a scary ride.

why not just get some relatively sticky street tires?

new bfgs are ok in rain, not great not good just ok,as they get bald, they suck.
Nutgoblin why on earth do you need them? Farm and Fleet Tiger Paws would do the trick for you.

I have 17x10.5" rims on the back of my car now, and the Dr's are a hell of a lot cheaper than a regular tire in 315/35/r17. As far as power, it is getting there, and will increase more in the future....It is on the list of things to do to the car. Besides, I had DR's for the 88 Mustang and the 04 is putting out more now than that car did at the tire.

unless you are street racing or drag racing I see no reason for a DR. my wifes car makes over 500 to the wheels and its still on Nitto 555's

Nick, for wear, performance, and cost I would look at Conti Extreme Contacts or Eagle F1 A/S. I got 3 seasons out of my Eagles and probably going to run them again all summer. I did the power tour ("power wash") in 2007 and drove over 1200 miles in the rain for that and the Eagles were great. They aren't the stickiest, but I can get 1.93 60' on 300 HP, so they should suit you well.

Ah yes, however when I loooked at the cost of the f-1's in that size (they dont make the a/s in 315/35/r17), and they are $400+ a tire vs the 350 it will cost me for two Nitto Nt555r's. In fact, all performance tires in that size that I can get at a discount are 400 or more. Even the non dr nittos for the pair cost more.....At this point it comes down to what is more cost effective and what fits in my budget.

Just my .02, but wouldn't safety outweigh the cost??? Let's say it WAS raining and you lost it.............now your looking at a whole lot more money than $100 difference for 2 tires, not to mention at least 2 summers of comfort knowing that you don't have to think about how your driving when it rains. That's not a chance I'm willing to take.

I understand what you are saying, however I have the Nitto dr's on the car now, have been in the rain several times, and have no issues, even with the center section almost smooth. Yes safety is a concern, however I have a good handle on the car. By saying this, I dont go balls out in the rain, and I am a bit more cautious, just like I am when driving the car in the snow (with regular Goodyear f-1 all seasons in the stock size). Have not had any issues yet, highly doubt I would. I even drove home last summer on them when we had that major rainstorm last summer....I was fine.

I might go with those, considering that I can get them for 130 a tire plus a 6% discount.....Why is everyone trying to talk me out of the dr's when I am all ready running them on my car?

Honestly I think most are trying to talk you out because with a large size like a 315 even with a decent street tire you will have more than enough traction at your power level. Given the fact that your car is primarily a street car why bother with the dr? You will get better turning performance, braking performance, vastly better wet performance, more tread life out of a set of decent street tires.
