That savage rifle. Any thoughts? Would be used for plinking, squirrels, stray cats, and what not. I kinda want the .17. I know it's a lot more to shoot, but does it have any other disadvantages?

If you don't have a .22LR yet....I get that. IMO the .17HMR is one of those rounds that you get when you are just looking to add another toy to a collection. Plinking and squirrels has .22 written all over it.

I have a .22 pistol I use for plinking and squirrels. No .22lr rifle, but I don't shoot that much.

Maybe I am strange but if you all ready have a .22 pistol I would get a .22 rifle that can use the same round less ammo to stock at home

My .22 pistol is as good as any off the shelf, cheap .22 rifle. Sees redundant.

yeah, was looking to see if anyone had any words of advice to stay away from the .17 other than it's spendy to shoot.

I would always get a .17 hmr over a .22 anyday having owned both, the .17 has was more stopping power and way more accuracy at any distance period

^ what he said. But I would add that if you are looking for a semi auto your only choice is in a .22
The. 17HMR is not approved for semi auto rifles.

Owned both, use the 22 a hell of a lot more. Cheaper and quieter, if Im shooting stuff beyond 100yrds I have other rounds far more surgical. Im also the oddball guy who preffers the 17 HM2 over the 17 HMR, just as flat out and beyond 100yrds but again quieter and cheaper.

Cabelas does not get my approval. They only had ten. They sold out in an hour. Fuck them. I'm gonna go to badger or shooters shop in stallis and buy one at retail and email the reciept to cabelas. Gonna keep my money local ftw.
