So I hope these threads aren't too annoying :rolf

Does anyone here have or know anyone who has a Nissan Armada or Toyota Sequoia? I have been seeing a few here and there and wondering if I get one with mileage around 90K if it would be a better starting point than other big Suvs.

Thanks for any info

Honestly, Tom, if it were my money, with the way gas prices are going up, I would stay away from a larger suv and go to say an explorer or a crossover vehicle. The over all cost in gas on those two suvs will be above what you are saving versus new

Which year sequoia are you looking at? Older ones w/ 4.7? Newer ones w/ either 4.7/5.7? Driven the lot of them and the old sequoia/4.7 combo seems fine. Not the most powerful, but never lacking (newer ones, 05+, I haven't driven but had a healthy bump in hp to ~ 270-280 depending on year, AND a 5 speed auto vs 4 speed). The newer larger sequoias seem a bit challenged w/ just the 4.7, but again, not really underpowered. 5.7's are of course, very stout.

I've never liked the look of the armada, but there is no denying that they're a strong runner. They used an IRS that had a bit tougher rear-end than the pick-up trucks dana 44's. Very strong...horid gas mileage, of course.

But in the end, especially with city driving, these huge vehicles will absolutely suck down the fuel.

If the price was equal b/w these and a similar suburban, I might tend to these guys...but I can't imagine that you couldn't find similar condition surburbans for less...or a Tahoe for that matter.

Currently the Sequoia I found is an 2004 with the 4.7 V8. Everything I have seen Tahoe Suburban Yukon Expedition Armada and Sequoia have all be hovering around that 20k mark with mileage varying from 60k to over 100K depending on year and equipment.

My dad has a Mountaineer. Damn thing is getting 10-12 MPG in the city. Can't justify stepping down in size when my old suburban was getting 12-13 mpg consistantly in the city. And im only getting 16-17 in my Vic.

My girls mom got a brand new Sequoia in summer and I drove it to Tday and Xmas dinner. Its a very nice smooth ride, to big for her but its an all around nice big vehicle.

perfect time to buy a big SUV! People should be dumping them by the hundreds now that gas prices are $3.40 a gallon.

That is what I thought too. But for some reason they are still going for stupid money at the auctions and dealers. :confused

That is because that market hasnt caught up with the gas prices.

Friend has one 220K miles and going pretty good. Tailgate handle problems, some brake warpage problems from the rears being undersized for towing (since corrected). Original trans and engine. Done the chain a couple times now, no real problems to speak of. It's been beat to shit now, but the thing is pretty much indestructible.

not really, its because cash for clunkers took a shit ton of cars and suvs off the roads and all used prices are higher, gas price adjusments have occured 2 years ago, they never went back.

Sequoia. by far. my mom had a 05 and put about 102k miles on it, it was a GREAT car, only thing it needed was a interior door handle cause it broke. It took all of $25 and an hour or so to fix. she traded it in and got a 2008 and that thing is beast. i say go for it.

I would def get the Toyota. By far a better truck. Now the newer model OMG! They are so over built it's crazy. They look so beefy, if I had the $ I would by a 2010-2011 Sequoia so hauling my Supra.

I say look at how much driving you do and get your calculator when you go to the gas station! those trucks are frigging HUGE. do you have kids? alot of animals? something to tow? if not, why waste the money?! My Yukon costs $75 to fill up and I fill up 2-3 TIMES A WEEK!!!! I get the best mpg using 89 oct in the 5.3l and with the price of that sitting at 3.50/gal and RISING....its murder on the wallet.

cost cost cost... what are tires going to cost you??? Something to think about with the two depending on if its sized like the new acadias from gmc are with a very unique sizing that only 3 manufacturers make a tire in and they are high cost just due to that. would be worth getting me a rim size for each vehicle just to get a idea.

well. turns out today i have inventory so im at the store waaay earlier than normal. I have a sequoia in my shop right now. Its tire is one of the most common found 265/70/16 so pricing is really not a issue with some as low as $165. The armada either has 265/70/18 or 285/70/17 and neither offer a ton of variety so the cost is much more significant looking at $240 a tire on low end.

I know.......not the most telling purchasing point but i see people everyday freak out with tire pricing and wonder why they didnt look prior to buying

My moms new 5.7 2008 Tundra averages about 15.7-16.2 MPG. as seen on here little on board display thing. the 5.7's are surprisingly quick to.

Got a chance to drive a 2010 5.7 Tundra reg cab 2wd short bed fitted with all of the TRD add-ons including the TRD blower. Output of over 500 hp and boy did that beast move. After the beat run, it became my dream truck.
