Go LED or LED backlit LCD, plasma uses too much energy to run imo.

I would got with samsung or sony. Never had one of their LED TVS (but really want one). My Samsung took a sudden shit on the day of the NFC Champ. game so I went out and bought a Sony, but didn't have the $$ at the time to get the LED one. Whatever you do don't go to Wal-Mart. The prices may be a little lower but I've noticed they have shit for selection.

I'm happy with the Vizio I bought. Great TV for the money.

Have a Samsung LCD upstairs which is great, too.

I am pretty happy with my LG 42". Its not the biggest but fits well in a 15x25 living room. And it was a good buy at 900. I looked at the Sony and I tought that the picture was great but the set costed 300 more than the LG and didnt notice a diffrence in picture quailty.

LG LED-LCD are phillips panels with samsung guts.

There is no need to get an LED unless you want to save space. There is no way your eye will picture any difference in picture quality between a good quality LCD vs LED. I have a 52" LCD Samsung 1080 and I also have a LED samsung 52" I have hooked up my blu-ray to both and cannot visually tell the difference between them. Walmart has the 52" Samsung LCD similar to the one I have for under $1000. Full 1080. I play a lot of PS3 games on it and have excellent picture with it. I also have over 1500 movies, about 100 blu-rays and they look awesome on both tvs. I wouldn't spend the extra money on an LED. I have had my LCD samsung for about 4 years, it's on about 6 hours a day between my GF and I, we work opposite shifts, and its still in perfect condition.

The biggest difference I noticed was my lcd would be very warm after an hour or so and my led runs cool after 6 hours.

Yeah....thats what I though the whole thing was with LED. Not space saving, but energy and heat saving with an LCD like picture (most people say better than LCD).

The second major difference between LED and LCD televisions is the environmental effect. LCD televisions use mercury in the manufacturing process versus the LED tv which does not! Mercury is very bad for the environment. Mercury is also used in making solar cells but that is off topic. An LED hdtv will also use about 40% LESS power than the same size LCD tv. Power usage is the dark secret of all the new line of HDTVs. An LCD or plasma television cost between $10-15 per month to operate. That is quite high particularly if you have more than one. The tree hugger in me comes down firmly on the side of LED televisions.
