Well it is a 97 f150 2wd. Has a cap and exhaust that exits in front of the back passenger wheel. The sound is only from 55-59mph. It is a deep bass type sound and it builds pressure like you want to pop your ears or something. It doesn't affect the handleing, speed, ride quality, engine idle or anything. Rpms do not dictate the sound. Only speed causes it. Any ideas?

Bad Ujoints making a vibration that resonates in the cap?

Tire out of balance? You would think that you would feel bad u-joints before you hear them.

the steering hasn't changed, and The u joint might make sense/ How do you check if it's bad?

is there a window cracked open on the cap? I know years ago when i had a mustang with a sunroof, if i had he sunroof only open on the freeway it would do something like that.

This sounds very possible. Might even be closed all the way but have a bad seal around a window, I used to have an oldsmobile with an aftermarket Sunroof. If I didn't crack a back window when I had the sunroof open it made a noise almost identical to whats described. If I equalized the air pressure by cracking open a window, the sound vanished.

all the windows are sealed. That was the first thing I checked. I tried opening the windows with the noise going and there was no change. Kind of annoying but nothing seems to be performing wrong or bad

Does the truck have a cabin filter? Does changing from AC/floor/vents/fresh air/recirculate do anything?

Tight U-joint as previously mentioned. Does the truck have a slight shudder on launch? That would be a u-joint issue, hope they aren't the staked style, those are a PITA to change.
