And the thing is pure awesome. If there are any other nerds in here on the fence wether to get one or not I say do it. OS boots almost instant and playing WoW (yea I know) is so much faster loading. Best thing to happen to computers in years.

For those who want to know, this is the one I got.

Which is great and all, but in my eyes that be better money spent on more RAM/CPU/Vid Card upgrade. Then again if your happy with the rest of that, why not I guess.

ssd drives are great but still to pricey for what they are. In about 2 years, I'll be all up in that shit.

SSD conversions are tha shiznit. Seems to make just about any computer 3-4 years newer on most tasks.

I'm on the fence only because of the cost at he moment. I know it's totally worth it as I've used a computer with one and it was bad ass. I think I'll wait until later this year. I'd like to see an 80gb for $100 before I make the leap.

That and 16gb of ram are my next upgrades.

Take that CS5 Creative Suite!

Just a heads up, if you plan on running a SSD, you HAVE to use Win 7 for it to work like it should.

I'd assume anyone looking forward to upgrading to a SSD is already running W7.

Speaking of Windows, who's looking forward to W8 Beta later this year? Some interesting rumors floating around about it.

Some people are still out there running XP and claiming it is the best OS ever made. Granted those people are idiots but still need to know this info on SSD's.

Only Win 7 uses the TRIM comand. It is used for garbage cleaning on the drive. With out it the drive gets slower and slower over time. yes you can boot in XP but whats the point.

I will definitely be considering one of these when I build my next computer.

I dunno i've been using one in xp for months without issue. The point is the old drive died... an ssd is better performance than a mechanical.

unfortunately, some things still don't like to play nice with Win7. I have had a real PITA when doing anything on the Android Dev Kit through win7.

I found some workarounds online to be able to issue manual trim commands in xp for the event a slowdown takes place. It's gone 6 months without any noticable slowing, so even if I have to run it once every 6 months that's no different than a defrag to keep performance the same. Certainly not enough to worry about and say there's no point to them either.

It depends on the application. There's a reason 99% of medical and military device manufacturers use Win XP (when they use Windows) to run their equipment.

We run it at work as well. It's all about the applications and what they'll play nice on. XP is a wise choice when a multitude of "legacy" applications need to be used. However, I hate it. I'm a fan of Windows 7 and run it on everything I don't run *nix on.

Regarding the SSD, I will probably invest in one soon. Also on the waiting for the price to drop bandwagon.
