Just saw that Valenti Classics burned last night. Don't know the extent of the damage, but the video says they were doing some welding on a 55 chevy and thinks that is where it started.

I have a buddy that works for the fire department there. It wasn't as bad as the media made it out to be. If you were next to the fire then you could see smoke and flames, but not just as a passerby.

odd, that they were moving, and the place is for lease......

actually I thought they were going out of business or for sale. Insurance FRAUD.

Does anyone actually buy a car from that place. I know they have been there forever but man the prices on their cars are really high. I'm with Joe on this one. Could be insurance fraud.

It is suspicious...

Believe it or not I did buy my old Grand Prix there. But it wasn't a fully restored car. It was one of the few he picked up that actually sat out on his lot back before they did their fancy remodel in the early 2000's

They weren't going out of business, they were relocating. It is strange though.

Talking to the guy in the shop their resto prices seemed reasonable...

As far as prices for the cars themselves, it always seemed to be the car they were selling...I'd seen some decent prices in the past, as well as some WTF prices. I think the best buy I'd seen was an clean Impala SS clone with a mild 327/4speed for 4500 bucks around 98 or 99...but I've seen my share of mopar E bodies w/ 383's going into the 40's as well.

But that seems to be the norm for most of these type of places...

Hopefully the damage wasn't too bad. Weren't most the cars there on consignment?

Yes, pretty sure most of the cars were on consignment. And probably help to blow some of those prices way out whack. The actual owner wants nothing less than full retail in his pocket and then valenti has to try and inflate the price to make themselves money. Then you got a sticker price that is insane. :rolf

Sounds like a way for an owner to get free heated storage for his car while the value increases over time also.

That would be a pathetic attempt at insurance fraud if true.....

Saw this on my way to Chicago on Friday night. It was hard to count as I blew past on the freeway at quarter to 8, but there were no less than 8 fire trucks on the frontage road, all with their lights on, which was weird because there were no flames by that time. The building was also standing, so it didn't burn to the ground or anything. Sounds surprising that car restoration/sale professionals would allow a fire to start from welding. Hope there's no funny business.
