We all go to work every day and do different things. What is your favorite bit of equipment, device, machine to use? At my job, I have to say the Schleuneger coax cable stripping machine. This thing is cool. It has it's own programmable features. I used to have to set up a machine for a specific cable everytime I needed to use it. This new one is a dream! Once you program the needed dimensions into it, it saves the program and all you have to do is call it up on the menu. It has up to four separate cutting operations in it but mostly all you need is three. It grips the cable, strips the outer jacket and then it strips the braid and then it strips the insulated inner wire in one operation. This thing costs more than my car did.

Cold Former. Basically it take a coil of wire, turns it into steel slugs which get carried across 5 punch/die stations (via finger grippers that are timed with a huge cam) and at the end it's a valve spring retainer. This happens at up to 200 pieces per minute. It's amazing to watch!

My favorite and least favorite (depends if it's running, lol) piece of equipment is our 3.5 million dollar dedicated machining center that will spit out a fully machined GM timing cover every 13 seconds.

There is a 4 position table where the block sealing surface is machined and then a robot transfers it to a 8 fixture table where the rest of the features are machined on the outside and oil pan surface. After that another robot loads the part into a continuous parts washer and it gets leak tested and packed.

Back when I worked at Komatsu, I got to do testing (read:play with) all sorts of construction and mining equipment from the normal size to the absolutely huge. One of my favorites was the giant mining trucks like this one - 2700 HP, 320 ton payload, set of stairs up to the cab lol.

At Chrysler we had all sorts of cool automation and cnc stuff, and some pretty cool robots. We had some pretty cool crank deburr robots that would grab crankshafts and then swivel and spin them all over at the various angles and touch all the oil holes to a chamfer bit, and then to a fixture that would plunge a brush through them to get out all the chips.

Here at WE one of the coolest things I think is strangely all the old stuff. A lot of the substations still have the old electromechanical protective relaying and reclosers and evn old chart recorders and stuff. I find that stuff fascinating it is all precision hand made clockwork stuff like old watches its almost like little works of electromechanical art.

But you don't get to operate it. :goof That's basically the only machine I use at work, so sure it's my favorite. As far as which specific machine (out of 7 different) ones, I do have a preference but that won't mean anything to you guys.

I worked at place that did the low voltage at P&H mining equipment. I ran the fiber backbone through the welding shop. It is impressive to watch that kind of equipment being built. Pictures cant do justice to the actual size of that equipment.

At school, SolidWorks Professional is my favorite tool.

In the shop, they let me use the surface grinder yesterday. That tool can be mesmerizing at times.

At home, doing woodworking, I'd say the table saw.

My knife.. I'm a meat cutter..don't have many cool things. A couple meat saws that are just like wood band saws only bigger and a grinder I could fit 350+lbs of meat in..and the wraping machine..

Smartboard.

I agree, kickass tool. On a sidenote, my wife is a national trainer on them and has a book out for SMARTboard stuff related to education.

As for my favorite tool, that would have to be cordless impact guns.
