Anyone with experience, Trying to find out any short cuts so i don't make a mistake. Is there enough room for it to be done with the engine still in the car? If it needs to be pulled, top or bottom?

Thanks in advance.

what year? I did a 96 geo metro before, dropped it from the bottom. The nice thing was since the trans is so light it was easy to pretty much hold it and wiggle it around to maneuver it around. but everything was horribly rusted so almost every bolt snapped for the air damn, had to drill em out :-)

its a 1993, i had the axles out, and most of the parts off already so i shouldn't have to worry too much about rusted parts. But i am looking forward to being able to lift the trans by myself! lol

I've pulled manual trannys from the bottom easily. Autos I can't remember if going through the bottom is easy or possible. I can check when I get home and check all data.

I checked All Data and it looks like you can pull it from the bottom. BUT you have to drop down the front sub frame. So you need a engine support fixture. 14 bolts and three nuts to drop it. I remember I had to remove the sub frame that faces front to back but not the whole thing. Its not too hard calls for 6.0 HRS book time. Good Luck.

was there a body change between 93 and 96? I didn't have to drop the cradle... but now that I think about it, it would have made life easier.

oh and for the record (so nobody screws up their back)

I more or less 'guided it to the ground' I was never holdinng the full weight of it. But as it was loose in the engine bay it was easy to move it around to twist it out.

I don't know what changed from 93-96. Am just going off what all data showed. All Data has been wrong before so you might be able to drop it by just removing the front to back part of he sub frame. Just like how I did with the manual trans. Which is also about half the size.

^Did you have to drop the whole sub frame or just the one I described?
