Put in a new Summit Radiator today and did some detailing.
This radiator has been sitting in my dinning room since Oct.
When I took kit out of the box it was quite impressive.
All aluminum construction, nice weld and thicker than the
Ford Motorsport that was in my last car.
Before
Hope it works as good as it looks. Not sure about not having a shroud,
if it turns out to be an issue I'll run over to the pull a part and get a
set of Contour or Mystique fans, they fit perfect and work awesome.

I let it idle for quite awhile and it seemd to run a bit cooler. Need a real temp gauge.

Tommorow I am relocating the fuel pump and tightening up some exhaust
leaks.

I would grab a shroud if you come across one.

I'm kind of partial to Windstar fans. Old Tauruses had a 2 speed fan that is pretty nice also.

More important than having a shroud is having fan(s) that can cool the vehicle under 25mph. I don't like shrouds because they take up space. Probably the most critical part is making sure the fan can move air through the vehicle without just pumping it back through the radiator backwards when there isn't a shroud.

The reason I changed it was because at interstate speeds it would get hot. Figured it was pumping the coolant through fast than the radiator can cool it. At lower speeds it would cool right down.

Exactly where a shroud should be doing its job, the article Lance posted is long and boring but gets to the point that's been proven time and time again, without all the fancy math. Shrouds do their job best at speed so they can create the proper pressure centers to move the stagnant hot air.

Clean looking install though, what size radiator if I may ask?

This radiator doesn't have provisions to mount the factory shroud. With the shroud on the old radiator it would get hot on the interstate. I might
reinstall the factory shroud, I will have to drill some hole though. Didn't have time to this weekend.

My plans go all over the place with this car. From selling it to redoing
the whol;e thing.

Since I got it I have installed
Manual R&P Flaming River shaft
Summit Radiator (awesome)
Taurus fan

The flaming river shaft sucks. Hits my headers and it has theses
nuts to lock it in place. I am going to pull it out and take it to
a friends machine shop. Going to have hime tap the ujoints, then
Just use a piece of all thread or some barstock and have it thread.
Put a lock nut on it. This will get rid of the lock nuts that stick out
from the side of the ujoints and give the clearance I need.

It makes good power so my focus right now is to make the car more
enjoyable to drive. Also to clean up the interior.

I need a head liner, dash pad, and all new weather strip. Didn't realize
how much this shit cost. Priced the T-top seals and headliner and it was
close to $550. T-tops have multiple seals.

Also need to stiffen up the chassis. Want to get the Kenny Brown extreme
sub-frame connectors, Strut tower brace, and a brace across the rear shock
towers, then if it still rattles maybe a 6 point Maximum Motorsport cage.

Looking good, I had a Holley Blue on my car but couldn't stand the noise, I swapped it out with a Holley HP pump that's much quieter. Do you have a loud pump whine too?

Well after some thought the project is gone. Sold it last Wed. Might have lost a bit of cash, but if you figure the $300-$400 a new carpayment + would cost me everymonth.
I probably came out pretty good. Saved $2500 +/- while owning it. I knew that with the money from the sale and the $5k or so in the Project Mustang budget a very straight and clean car could be bought. Mine was a little rough, and the former owner had done a pretty good job of hacking up the wiring.

Thinking about picking this car up. 86' Mustang Notch

Thought about buying this car when I bought mine but didn't want to cough up the cash at the time. Was also partying alot
and not seeing things very clearly. Amazing how much cash can be spent eating and drinking.
What you think?
