Hello!

My name is Nathan, I live in Port Washington.

I've got a couple vehicles right now. Besides the project, I've got a 1986 RX-7 pushing 400whp and a truck.

But, this is about my 2000 Saturn SC1. Second car I bought...I've owned it since 2003. Many, many projects along the way, swapped to a twin cam, leather seats, brake, suspension and power upgrades. Nitrous'd, the car put down 199whp/208wtq, and ran a 14.5@98, with room for more. Along the way, went through 3 transmissions and blew the engine at Tail of the Dragon in 2008. Car was trailered home and put into storage until very recently.

Blown engine/transmission, ecu have all been sold off. Shell is now in my garage. The highlights of the planned upgrades list:

L61 2.2 Ecotec from a 2003 Cavalier (Nobody has done this to a Saturn S-series as far as I know)
F23 getrag manual transmission with LSD
M62 supercharger
Megasquirt spark and fuel control.
Possibly custom a-frame front end, depending on how the swap goes.

Big questions include, what I'm doing for engine mounts, axles, clutch hydraulics, etc. Waiting for some parts to show up, and then it's time to dig in 100%!

I'm confident in my engine building, fabrication, and welding skills, but I've never attempted a project of this magnitude. Will be looking for help on BSM as I go forward in this.

I would also like to add that I've got the race car...just looking to make this a fun, comfortable daily driver. Shooting for the neighborhood of 260-275whp.

Any comments or input are welcome :)

welcome to the site. Perhaps the second coolest Saturn on here. Perhaps. No higher than 2nd though.

Hahaha, I'm fairly sure I know what the first one is....and I can't argue. I might end up cutting the hood to fit my engine as well :)

Good luck with the project. I like the last pic.

Welcome. I know the L61 is a decent motor but save yourself some money in the long run and buy a LSJ. With the LSJ you get a forged bottom end, the M62 and CR already setup for FI.

I've already got the L61 and M62....and I didn't pay much at all for them.

LSJ's run $1000+

Used rods and pistons from an LSJ...much, much less :)

Stock rods and pistons on the L61 should be good to about 300....I'll probably upgrade as long as I'm building the engine.

FYI GM rates the LSJ pistons at 300. I know of a few people that have turbo'd stock motor LSJ's that are pushing 400whp but they don't tend to last very long. I wish you the best of luck with your project and feel free to ask questions about Ecotec's if you need help. If I don't know I know where to find the answer.

Oh hey I know that RX7 (I think). Did I cruise with you up to Fond Du Lac a couple years ago to a Nissan/RX7 meeting?

Heh. Nope. (unless it was 12+ years ago...)

This car was owned by an idiot who did some stupid things to it, painted it blurple, blew the engine, yanked the engine, decided he had no idea what he was doing, and sold the car....this was in 2000. In 2007, I bought it from that person. It had sat, untouched, in their garage for 7 years. The brake lines were bone dry and rotted through, the fuel lines were rotted through, needed some TLC to say the least.

3 years later, I finally got it running.

Anyways, back to the Saturn....still looking for an F23 transmission, then I can start mocking up how I'm going to mount this thing...
