Alright, so we've seen the pics now of the truck....

http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i209/z28kid98/RC%20Stuff/111_0197.jpg

Now I removed some of the stickers on the side of the body

http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i209/z28kid98/RC%20Stuff/111_0213.jpg

Going to replace those side "K" with the large ones from this decal pack

Sides will look like on this truck

Should look pretty cool.

So how about the toys to go with it. Only allowed Traxxas aftermarket parts. Hopefully the hinge pin kit isn't a big deal, but that's easy to swap out, haha. Thanks to Tony at Hobby Town. I think in total it was about $10 more than if I had ordered through Tower Hobbies, but it's worth it to get the help when you need it from Tony, especially when he's helped out the other members here. Diane is his mother's name(sweet old lady there) and Dennis is the father's name(short old guy).

http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i209/z28kid98/RC%20Stuff/111_0208.jpg

New small tool set, probably cheaper at Northern Tool though(Hobby Town was actually cheaper than Tower on these)

http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i209/z28kid98/RC%20Stuff/111_0211.jpg

And then of course the charger. Got some ok reviews, has a built in balancer instead of having to purchase seperately, and the same price as the Onyx230/external balancer combo.

http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i209/z28kid98/RC%20Stuff/111_0209.jpg

More to come through the build, only cause I like building stuff.

Pictures are from my Kodak Zi8 HD VIDEO camera, so it's still picture quality isn't all that hot, but oh well.

More crappy quality photos of the truck ripped apart, haha. But atleast I'm having fun with the "model" haha

And the hardened drive yokes for the insane power that is the titan brushed motor, haha

Did you replace the diff fluid?

hotshift13
01-04-2011, 10:23 PM
Looking good...I usually only upgrade parts on my truck when I break a part, But that hasnt happened yet.....cause the dam thing won't break! You coming racing?

Crawlin
01-04-2011, 10:24 PM
i'm hoping to on Friday.

I haven't done anything with the diff yet. just ran into an issue where the rear axle carrier machining is off and it's a tad too small to fit the included bearings. crappy

http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i209/z28kid98/RC%20Stuff/111_0221.jpg

STRIPPED, hahaha. had the slightest bit of grease, and that's it.

LEWETHETIGER73
01-05-2011, 06:54 AM
Well the casing just needs a little bit of lube to work properly. But the big white plastic part with metal gear attached is the diff. Take the four little screws out and pull a part by the axels. Take all the planetary gears out and pins and set on a paper towel and fill it up with some thicker weight fluid. The heavier you go and the more you fill it, the more it will reacte like a possi. You can either go with 50,000 and fill it up to just below the top of the gears or anything lighter. I use 300,000 cause it take longer to break down and leak out. But with that you have to go easy on it other wise you will get no traction at all and just spin out everytime you get on it! I usually only put about 1/2 full or less

Crawlin
01-05-2011, 07:58 AM
Thanks. Yeah I was just putting up pics of the case cause nick/dsmdude and I were joking on chat how far I ripped it all apart. I should put some more/heavier stuff in it since it seems as if there is nothing in it with how it seems there is no locking going on between the two sides.

Ricky Bobby

can u change the fluid in teh 4x4 diff thats next both go when i gun it but not sure, i want it posi damnit lol

Crawlin
01-05-2011, 04:34 PM
Tony exchanged out the rear hub carriers very easily. Got to love good customer service. Had a set waiting for me when I got there to pick up the other stuff. I also went to Trackside because I actually needed another set of camber adjusters and needed them now to get it together instead of waiting another two days to order it. Plus, I wanted to talk to Scotty about the spec class.

Scotty actually said we are not allowed to change the diff fluid from stock in that spec class. He said he "thought" that was how the class was run.

Can't wait to keep on working on this thing, haha.

Crawlin
01-06-2011, 07:14 AM
It was in the computer room for the past couple of days being worked on. I actually drove it last night to test it out after doing the motor break in. It's cool, haha.

Now I just need the wrench to adjust the suspension because it's all sorts of out of wack. Then I can actually race it around.

Ricky Bobby
01-06-2011, 09:49 AM
sweet so are u gonna bash with it at all or just race since theres no way i can race mine cause its all sorts of out of wack

I should read alittle better. 

01-06-2011, 11:00 AM
So I've always wanted to get one of these but never seem to see them in any store. Where do you guys pick these up and how much you ususually pay for them??

noeggs4u
01-06-2011, 11:07 AM
Got mine at track side. I think with tax it was 250

Ricky Bobby
01-06-2011, 11:47 AM
slash 4x4 with charger and lipo out the door i believe i paid $513

Crawlin
01-06-2011, 03:55 PM
Go to Trackside and get one off the shelf or go to Hobby Town by the Culver's in West Allis and pick one off the shelf from them.

Slash 2wd - $240 RTR and it has everything you need.
Losi XXX-SCT 2wd- $229 RTR (if i wasn't wanting to race the spec slash class I would buy this truck)

Slash 4x4 - $349 RTR

Want the better LiPo batteries, they are about 60-100 average depending on a couple variables, and then pick up one of the chargers that does lipo. Mine was $120 with build in balancing for the batteries. Venom makes one and I believe it's $150.

Then just go outside and have fun.

Crawlin
01-06-2011, 04:02 PM
I picked up two Venom LiPo batteries. 5000/40c and a 5000/60c. I had asked him to order a Thunder Power 5300/65c Pro Race battery, but after talking with him about that 1/5 Baja 5t truck, I really want that thing, haha.

So they are on the charger right now, and I'm doing the suspension setup now that I got a correct wrench for the turnbuckles(5mm) and off I go to race the little thing.

Ricky Bobby
01-06-2011, 04:43 PM
how much where those chris 2s or 3??

Crawlin
01-06-2011, 05:18 PM
they are 2s since that is all that is allowed in the class and that's all this esc could really take. I just took it for a spin in the front yard here at the house. Definitely need a 4wd one to bash around with. This thing is cool, but it's no yard basher that's for sure. kept getting stuck in the ruts.

anyways, I think they were $75 and $105. The Thunder Power pack I was gonna order was $129.

Tony soldered up a Traxxas male end plug on the wires that came with the charger for me. Didn't come with a plug so that was weird, but all taken care of now. I love this charger. 20 model memory and the overcharge protect is nice since I just had that happen. Has a "Race Mode" where it extracts every last little bit of power from the battery.

Hey I have a 4x4 if your interested :banana1: And I can sell it as a rolling chassi and you can build it up to your own specs :banana......sorry to hijack this thread...

Crawlin
01-06-2011, 06:05 PM
believe me, it was in my head. But in reality after looking at what I just spent this past week or two, I really believe I should have just done the Baja 5SC and had a toy and no racing, haha.

Ricky Bobby
01-06-2011, 08:14 PM
i can loan u my big tires so u dont get stuck as easy, and i love to bash to much thats why i had to get the 4x4

LEWETHETIGER73
01-06-2011, 08:57 PM
with the 2wd slash you have to watch your temps with the bigger wheels. My buddy blew his speedo doing this

DSMDuDE
01-06-2011, 11:25 PM
Chris - Looks good... Where did you get the Monster/Kawi sticker pack from?

Debating if i want to go and pick up anything from HT after work tomorrow.. Or maybe my LED kit will come in for my front bumper lights.

Crawlin
01-07-2011, 11:44 AM
I bought it online from cedar creek. They charged me but I haven't received it yet which pisses me off. Plus I didn't notice, but the stickers were like $7 each, and I got two sets. They charged me $12 shipping for those tiny ass sticker sheets!

Just go stop in on G&G off of racine and pick something up from them or whoever oyur local kawi dealer is.

I'm probably headed to trackside in a little bit to just "practice". Got something going tonight so can't race, but will be there for fun.

Ricky Bobby
01-07-2011, 08:57 PM
was at trackside tonite met larry and hotshift13 real laid back from what i seen but damn are those 2s' slow im used to my 3s flying all over man it would be awesome to fly over some jumps with a 3s in there

Crawlin
01-08-2011, 01:19 AM
yeah I had a blast running around the track. everyone was real nice and friendly. lots of people coming up to me asking about the truck. was asked about my suspension setup since it seems it handles ok compared to others, haha. definitely was a bit faster than some of the other stock slash's out there it seemed, i just need to be able to hold a decent group of laps together in traffic, haha.

Crawlin
01-08-2011, 09:07 AM
Tony, what class were you watching that makes you think that? If you get some of those Ballistic 4.5 combos on a 2s and I'd bet they'd be faster than the 3s stock traxxas stuff

Ricky Bobby
01-08-2011, 09:19 AM
i believe it was the spec class stock motor on lipo's just seems really slow haha

Crawlin
01-08-2011, 10:14 AM
even with the 2s, they are still brushed motors though don't forget. it is meant to be slow.

when i was there, someone had bought a new truck and had their old Associated SC10 that was modded with all the factory team stuff and had proline tires and beadlocks. The $60 setup. They were asking $90 for the truck, haha. It was at the same table I was at. And I kept staring at it, haha.

Ricky Bobby
01-08-2011, 10:33 AM
oh i know chris, im just used to the crazy speed out of my brushless and 3s lol, not saying its bad looks like fun and as larry said controllable speed haha so maybe ill get one to and come play also :)

i'm sure it'll be fine. Just make sure to bring a big towel to lay down on the tables. they don't want you working directly on the table. i think they open at noon? but I would hope earlier. I am watching the packer game for sure though, so have to figure that all out.
