Well actually nobody can succesfully fill a crack at all. Sometimes you can get lucky on a 2-3" but thats it. Those commercialls that say they can work the big ones is pretty much a lie. This way when it spreads they can get you on a new w/s. I used to work for those guys and I have never seen it done properly. My company say's the size of a quarter or less.
Also do you have any rust in that corner? or is the glass feel raised at all? If so thats a stress crack and if who ever does the job doesn't fix that then you are going to be replacing again. Just so you know.

Justin, unfortunately it needs to be replaced. I had to replace mine and it was about $276 from Windshield Dr.

That doesn't seem too bad, actually.

I thought repairing long(er) cracks is not possible but heard from people who had this done and watched videos online of crack repairs much longer than 8". Figured there was an 'insider' repair not publicly advertised.....

What happens is there is usually a little air buble that gets trapped at the end of the crack and that is where it cracks from.. In order to succesfully repair a chip it needs to be airtight for the vacuum to work. It will fill to the end sometimes but it won't get rid of all the air.
Depending on how it cracked, if it was rust, my company offers lifetime warranty on all installs and just guessing it should be about $250 - $300.

99% of the time they never go anywhere. And if they would crack out they would during the repair. If you have a chip repair done it is for your best interest to do it either indoors or at least with the w/s warm to the touch. Just makes the resin fill in all corners. I don't know about other companies but Abra offers a full warranty on chip repair. It is about $73.85 after tax for a repair. If the repair ever cracks out or spreads we will put that money towards a new w/s purshased through us. Otherwise most insurance companies will cover a repair.
