Picked up a Traxxas Slash 4x4

Already ordered RPM F/R arms and rear shock mount, installed the arms so far

Also picked up a 3s lipo battery and a Onxy Charger

Its a Duratrax Onyx 230 charger.

First one was DOA, dead LCD screen from Tower Hobby, they are sending me a replacement, ill have it tomorrow, told me to keep the bad one. So i sent it in to Duratrax because they have a 5 year warranty, so if all goes well i will have 2

My replacement charger will be here tomorrow, im sick of only having 1 battery. cant wait to try out the 3s lipo, after that i am just going to get some 2s lipo's, which will still be great!

And i do not want to go out and buy another NiMah battery right now.

Stay tuned for more upgrades. LOL, i plan on getting some Traxxas front and rear alum steering parts, and also some ProLine Split Six wheels and Proline Trencher tires. I hear the trenchers rock for all around bashing.

Having a waterproof electric is kind of nice. i bring it inside, covered in snow, throw it in the shower, hose it off, and let it dry.

Don't forget to add some oil to the bearings to prevent rust. I was replacing mine regularly until I said no more water. If you ever upgrade the electronics I love my mamba max pro with novak 5.5 550 ballistic motor. It just screams and also maintains cooler temps.

It's a heavier truck. The main reason I got it was the cooler operating temp. That and It was much bigger then my friends :D But then my little brother got a 4.5 for his. Now that is way to much for the track but just enough that he can chase gophers no problem :rolf

We stumbled upon a hobby shop today with LOADS of traxxas slash 4x4 parts. Its the Hobby Town USA that shares the parking lot with Culvers on Hway 100 and Greenfield. All traxxas alum parts, and ALL RPM parts in stock, also MIP and tekno parts... This place is going to get me in trouble!

The guy there, i beleive his name was Tony? Older gentlemen very nice, and is not afraid to share information if you ask a question/opinion.

This will deff be my new place of business instead of the Hobby Town in Delafield where they have NOTHING in stock!

Also line the inside of the body to prevent it from breaking or cracking. Everytime you land from any large air the tires rub on the inside and wear the paint away. I used shoe goo.

i think i saw 1 set of the trenchers in stock at HT. I am going to go with the glue version of the split 6 Pro Line wheel instead of the bead lock, so when i am using the lipo's, esp the 3s, i do not have a tire coming undone from the rim.

They do have the MIP kits, and the Tekno kits in stock at HT, which i was also thinking about.

Chris, I have the RTR version. and i also ordered the 3s Venom lipo, and the Only 230 charger. Tower Hobbies has a special going on right now, where when you spend xx-xx amount you get xx off your order. So i saved $60

i have the summit led's in the front of my rpm bumper ive met another slash full boar head on no damage and also have hit numerous other shit around, also im not easy with the bashing right now im missing half the body in the back since its been flipped slid and munched but still has 3 pins to hold it down barely, also have the led's in the back bumper no problems there either :thumbsup

i think its $7 to run practice? used to be for the onroad i used to do there. on race night you can't practice tho lol i've only got 3 reg. stock packs. i used to be able to keep them goin on the charger enough to get going every round. we'll see i've only got one really good battery lol

Need some lipo help. Is a brand new lipo on its first charge not supposed to charge to its full mah rate? My 5400 only went to about 2300 but hit like 12v.

Looks like my ESC took a shit on me tonight.. Lost reverse out of no where...

even checked the ESC and motor to make sure they were not hot, and they weren't.

Truck is only 4 days old, they better send me a new ESC.

I could not find anything about resetting the esc. Only the remote. Guess ill have to dig deeper. I did make sure it was in sport mode. And not race or training mode...

and nick i would assume that its in a diff mode ive beat the living hell out of mine for almost a yr and smoked only one after running hard on a lipo then jumped it into a pool :rolf the esc didnt like that to much would turn on and not turn off unless unplugged lipo and would overheat in like 5min

I went through all the modes last night. And then back to sport mode. and still no reverse. I found how to re program the esc so ill so that tonight and hope it works!

On a side note I picked up the rpm bumper lights and leds. But they gave me the roof leds instead. So their gonna order me the bumper leds for me.

yea those are the right led's u have to drill them out so they fit tight, thats what i did and have no problems, u will also have to clearance the body otherwise when it moves up and down will cut the led leads and then no more lights.

i bought the 4pack of lights front and rear have 2lights per rear light holder

i just had read something about those esc's needing to be set to run a lipo vs. running a regular battery. maybe it's just an internal cutoff that gets weird when overheated. like shuts down the "channel" that is least needed(i.e. reverse)

It does have a lipo thermal cut off mode if it gets to hot. And a voltage protection mode So the lipo doesn't drain fully. But it didn't get hot. Nor did the voltage protection kick in.

Well you have to be invited to the coral to get in. Pretty cool set up. The guy bought the old abc hobbys race stuff. But last time I was out he had some health issues. Don't know if it's up yet.

As far as lipos. I only buy venom. The warranty is amazing on them. Pretty much lifetime. I just sent 1 in and I am getting a new one mailed back.

And I had issues with my stock esc and sometimes you get a wierd one. Just remember if you are running lipo you must have the cut off turned on and off with nimh.

And Matt Sunderlage just bought his 100th rc vehicle this last week. It is sickening watching him race. He is like a machine, very clean, and fast. He has the nickname at the track of the short course assasin.

Racing is set up for this thursday were they are running the oval and dirt track. And same set up on the first only with an extra race. Can't wait!

for the RTR classes at Trackside, it seems as if the stock slash tires are the ones to have. so maybe upgraded stuff isn't TOO needed? I'd do another battery just to be able to have more run time, even if it wasn't a really nice one

Stock traxxas tires in my opinion work the best. I always have the rears on backwards. Better bite. And for the most part aluminum is kinda a waste. Rpm is the only way to go unless you do the proline pro trac kit. And I always recomend changing the stock white steering assembly to the 4wheel slash steering. Much stronger and smoother.

and i was gonna get the bead lock but tony was sayin with 3s with a true beadlock ur gonna still chew up tires, so these tires one set i bought preassembled other i have to do, so tony told me to wrap inside of tire in duct tape to stop ballooning and works perfect, the pre built ones do but the others nothing at all :thumbsup

Looks good. Those are the rears sisters bf bought for his Rustler, they suck on road, so he bought some 2.2 tires and RPM wheels, looks nice. and work good too..

Hmmm debating what to spend the $80 on

I did hear by going to 2wd slash rims, it will make the truck a little wider, because of the offset, im going to research this a little more, because wide could be better. like i did with my Savage, 1/2" rims made a world of a difference.

This is the 2nd time my Venom 3s lipo is being charged.

First time it got to about 2300Mah, and said it was fully charged. and it is a 5400Mah battery.

Will it take a couple charge cycles for it to reach its peak?

and also, on my Onyx 230 charger, it shows CHG Voltage is 12.22Volts. and it is a 11.1v battery, it this also normal? CHG current right now is at 4.09A

IN Voltage is 11.95
Currently at 1788Mah

Does everything look right? Or is something wrong?

actually all four are fronts shallower offset to clear front knuckles, and def wider as u can see and i have a set of 2wd rears if u want to check it out first before u buy i ran them on the rear. Im hoping with these big tires i wont be getting stuck to much in my bashing times :thumbsup

my charger doesnt show the mAh it only shows voltage and when its fully charged on a 11.1v its at about 12.43v so seems normal to me and mine is also a 25c 5000 mAh i believe

Just got a reply from someone on Ultimate RC forum:

[B]Yeh looks fine

the 2300mah will be the amount you put INTO the battery, so it would have been partially charged, then you added 2300mah to make a total of 5400mah.

If you have a b6 type charger whilst charging hit the start button and it will show all the cells voltages, each cell should have 4.20v when they are full charged. So as long as each cell is 4.20v you know its fully charged.

Might actually go with some RPM revolver wheels, seeing they are 2.2'sm which will make the truck have a wider stance, and then get some 2.2 wheels, instead of using the stock 2.2/3.0 wheels.

Well ordered my toy.... since I want to try that racing class for Slash's at Trackside, it's all 2wd in the Slash Spec class and I want to wait since I'm a Team Losi guy through and through to see if they come out with a 4wd version of their new xxx-sct (i'm almost ready to pick that 2wd version up too, haha)

Anyways, since this isn't available at stores and I like having rare things, how about the truck you can only get through a Kawasaki dealership? (Thank you to G&G Powersports for ordering this up for me!)

Yes, this thing is 2WD because the class is only 2WD.

The Losi XXX-sct I want is 2WD also, and I'm hoping they bring out a 4WD version soon.

I needed the battery cover AND the battery holder(holds the 8 AA's). So NOW I can even put a receiver with it and get my old Team Losi LX-T up and running again. That one would be my serious off road bashing truck, haha. I have to buy extra WHOLE trucks since you can't find parts for them anymore, haha.

Yes, this thing is 2WD because the class is only 2WD.

The Losi XXX-sct I want is 2WD also, and I'm hoping they bring out a 4WD version soon.

yea i really want them axles they look beefy but i have only blown up one stocker on the 3s bashing. So i cant comfortably spend 50bux on something i really dont need, also i couldnt buy a 2wd they get stuck way to damn much, me and a buddy raced on a demo track with ruts and mud and wet clay i kept having to shove him around with my 4wd, and his 2wd on my lipo was fricking nuts

i've bashed with my sc10 and it seems rock solid except i broke a ball stud cup that was cracked when i got the truck kit so i knew it was gana be time i got a set of cups ready to go on. thurs i might not make it back intime for the racing again something else came up. i'm down for bashing tho i've got the emax and the sc10 to bash with both work flawlessly :)

Took the truck into Hobby Town, tony took a look at it and then called Traxxas, He thinks it is the remote, ordering me a new remote, will be here thursday, and if that doesnt fix it, he is going to swap in another esc for me

Well, after some more driving of the truck today, looks like it is not the remote. i would loose reverse intermittently, and i would get it back if i held reverse in 100% position, and then turn the trim knob all the way to the left, and then to the right, and then back center, and i would get it back...

Going to go back to my HobbyTown tomorrow after work, he said if i still had the problem, he would swap out a in stock ESC for me

I would say reset it all again. And try a 2s. To much power might be creating a hic-up. Or sudden impacts could be damaging the electronic's

my 3s has no problems and its all ive ran since new never even ran the Nimh batt it came with lol, have seen the esc's do some weird stuff even though they are water proof when the are at full temp and get wet :rolf

Well nick I win put in the axles went out did a wheelie for the length of my house and one of the rpm a arms snapped so off to the hobby store so I can mail out my other ones to get them replaced here but damn those new axles are nice and tightened up the slipper and its wheelie time with the stampede tires

im still tinkering with mine, swapped out roomies ESC and reverse works, Called Tony and he said he will call Traxxas for me tomorrow on swapping it out with a ESC he has in stock.

I do not like how loose then RPM spring cups are compared to the stock cups, Ill run them, and if they fall out, replace with stock, was only $3

RPM Slash 4x4 Adjustable Height Body Mounts - So i can run with it lowered and the tires not rubbing on the body

These things must be adjusted to slip ALOT from Traxxas!

Before it would slip alot, and now its like a AWD launch out of the hole. lol

3. The "Wheelie" Test
Now to actually check the slipper setting. Start by holding both rear wheels down on a flat surface such as a pit table (have a buddy do this so you can be the "trigger man"). With the wheels held in place, give the transmitter trigger a quick blip—in other words, hold full throttle for no longer than one to two seconds, or you risk burning out your electronics.

I actually do not think you can do the wheelie test with a 4wd model, just tried it and even with it fully tightened, still will not lift, so i adjusted it 100% then backed it off a little.

Talk about a improvement over the stock setting!
