yea they're not that rare...

my wife had one and I liked driving it, but she spun out in the rain on I94south, just north of the airport, hit both walls! hit every panel on the car, hit the one wall so hard, cracked one of the spokes on the rims in half!

So now that I hope to have this job soon that requires a lot of driving (some weeks I could put 1,000 miles on it, and with my grand prix losing 4th gear this morning, I think another car is in my future.

ps I want to keep it under 5k

Get yourself a tdi Volkswagen. I can't believe mine, 800+ miles on my first tank of diesel.

I have one on my lot now but it's not done with safety yet and it's silver. I won't know a price on it until it's set up but I can let you know. I know its got leather and its a 5 speed but I'm not sure if it's got a moon.

hey red, PM me the info when you know what sup with that one. I might be interrested if the price is right.

Ideally I'm going to keep this car for 2 years as I save money for what I really want.

HAHA I had that EXACT I mean EXACT car 1 year ago today. 05, Black, manual trans, leather, sunroof, deck lid.

FWIW.
Sold it on craigslist for $3200 had 82k on it and the rear passenger quarter and door had some minor dent/scratches on it.

IMO unless it has super low mileage or is a newer car 5k is actually quite a bit for that car.

any thoughts on manual vs auto trans for reliability?

My biggest gripe about the transmission was the synchros.

When I got my car with 65k the 2nd gear synchro was already weak. I put in great fluid and it helped quite a bit... but even still with a quick shift at high RPM it would give a little crunch/grind. So when you go out and test drive them be sure to give them a quick few high RPM shifts to make sure you don't have the same problem I did.

Other than that the manual itself is pretty robust and reliable.

Also be sure to note the clutch condition, they are known for going through the stock clutch pretty quick. At 82k when I got rid of it the clutch was still holding but it definitely felt weak.
