My new truck has a second tank for "exhaust fluid" anyone deal with this yet? Where do you go to get it? And how much do you use on average?

It takes urea and i suspect it's dealer only. I heard a tank last about as long as an oil change interval? Urea was one of the main ingredients in the OKC bomb too.

Check this out. Even has a usage calculator.

That makes sense, 1/2 tank of DEF and 3600 miles on the ODO.

Inland Diesel and Badger Truck carry it.

Most of the time you have to add at the oil change.

Guy I know that just got a new one said he got his first oil change and urea fill up free because they weren't selling the stuff yet, I'd inquire about that.

I'm voting it's some type of pre cat fluid to warm it up faster.

You guys know it's just pretty much pee, right?

What's it for?

Its injected into the exhaust as a secondary exhaust treatment beyond the normal catalyst, pretty much after the filter starts to burn off after filling up. And yes chemically, its one of the ingredients of urine in mammals, but it ISN'T the same as urine. That's like saying the flour ingredient and the final product of brownies are the same, not quite the case.

Sounds like something you would buy from KaleCoAuto (http://kalecoauto.com/index.php?main_page=index&zenid=dad4nijsfoqccmq6pe6vt1tu44).

What ever you do don't run out because your truck will not run. Plum Crazy told me about a truck that already had to be towed in because they ran out of urea.

Ford gives you three starts and limited range I believe, unless you ignore the warning light that is :rolf.

Can't you use a programmer to tune it out? Probably a gov't emission regualtion BS. I know nothing about diesel, but a guy I know will only buy a 2011 Dodge because they supposedly don't have it?

efi live may be able to tune it out I'm not sure, I do know that they can't tune the trans in the 2011 GM Allsion yet. I'll be talking to my tuner soon and see what he says.

Doesnt taste like it! I had to remove a supply hose today while converting an F-650 from 2wd to 4wd...taste like brake fluid!

$8 a gallon??? If you dont mind discrete jugs I may have a "few" gallons cheap ;)

My touareg won't run if I run it dry. But it gives a bunch of warnings. It has a 4 gal tank (give or take) and on average gets over 5,000 miles on that tank. Depends on the driving habits and quality of fuel. I carry a half gallon jug around with me because I'm paranoid.

I know the VW system is smart enough to know if you just fill it with water/something other than the 'adBlue' urea fluid.

I was about to ask you the same thing.

I ordered a few gallons to be safe. I keep in the back of the cab so it wont freeze during the winter if I am traveling out of state. I have been getting Motorcraft DEF for around 8 bucks a gallon. I like that brand since it comes with a tube that will pevent overfilling and seals well to tank opening.

It uses about 5 gallons per Oil Change. And that is running to the factory specs of 7500 miles. However I have to change mine around 5000 miles. Work mandate and found a dealership that will work with my fleet. So its all good.

It does smell funny around the tailpipe when its running.:rolf

In converting some brand new 2wd F-750's to 4wd and I have to relocate an elaborats urea/cat system, quick connect hose to the sprayer likes to give you a little courtesy squirt when unhooked :)

Got another splash in the eyes/face the other day, stuff may as well be water as far as I could tell.

Its a NOx filter. It is indeed derived from pig urine. Not all but most diesels nowadays have it, depends if they can meet the standard without it. When it was first being developed it was talked about being so prevalent that it would be at the diesel pump right next to the diesel...

Funny side note, the diesels like the Mercedes that are called a version of "Blu" like "Blutech" is because "Blu" is German for the Urea I beleive.

There is a BP in Kenosha that has a pump. I know this because we had a truck towed in, he put the nozzle in the wrong filler and had 10 gallons of DEF in his diesel tank before he realized it

Its sad that EPA is going after all the tuners that have programmers that will delete the system.

From what I have heard, my mileage will jump 3 MPG when I delete it.........

But at the risk of my warrantee going away I will let someone else try it.
