You'd think from this article that it was the first successful rail gun test, which is far from the case. It is pretty impressive that they shattered the previous record of ~10 megajoules.

Or that the military only gives out information on weapon testing 10 years after it is proven. Thus this should be 10-15 year old tech.

That Air burst rifle looks kick ass, its like a 25mm smart M203.

The other articles I read say it uses quite a bit at this point in time, far from realistically being able to use on a the ship anytime soon.

Lets hope they make 9 guns rated at 1,000 megajoules (1 gigajoule) and put them on the USS Wisconsin and recommission that ship again!

This wasn't a secret test, it was public knowledge they were going to be testing this on Dec. 10th.
