ok so I have a TV that is 1080p, my uverse says I can choose from 1080i or 720p.

1. does my tv support 1080i?
2. is 1080i better then 720p?

I have the LG 32LD450 tv if it helps. I have no clue about this stuff so if someone with some insight could explain it all I would appreciate it.

thanks

Your TV will be "backwards compatible" to 1080i or 720p. A 720p frame has roughly about 1 million pixels. Compared to it, a 1080p frame has 2 million pixels. As you can figure, the amount of detail doubles. The only true 1080p output is from Blu-Ray right now.

The “p” letter in 1080p stands for progressive and “i” letter in 1080i stands for interlaced. These are the different scan modes used by TVs to "build" the picture. To you and me this really means nothing in most cases, however to see the difference between P and I you will need to view fast moving images, for example a tennis ball. If you manage to see it, the P will have a sharper image than the I, the edge of the ball will seem a tad blurry or fuzzy on "I".

For your question, your TV will support both 1080i and 720p, you will want 1080i for your setting.
