I have a job offer for a company as a Utility locator

4 weeks paid training
Company vehicle, cell, laptop, gas card
No boss, work alone
401k/insurance
14/hour

Right now I'm just looking for a job to make enough money for rent and all that and save for school at the same time. Just wondering if anyone does this. My dad's friend said he did it for a different company and he hated it, they'd call him when ever they felt like and he had to go out and work. The company is USIC. I guess in all this im just trying to find a bit of real world info on it b/c like all jobs HR makes it sound like the best job ever.

is insurance part of the pay, or do they provide you health insurance, but it comes out of the pretax 14/hr... cause then it's like you are really making 10 let's say.

overall it sounds like a cool job

Its an easy job as far as I know. Im pretty sure they just send you places when customers call for a locate, you check the drawings and then use the locator wand thing to locate the cables for sure and spray paint and flag them. Ive never seen them doing it in the middle of the night or anything lol so I would think it would be fairly regular hours. Only downside I would think is its outside a lot of the time, but probably not for extended periods it doesnt take too long to do a property. So, its probably 75% driving around in the company car listening to the radio to get from job to job and 25% locating.

Exactly. The job sounds ok, but the pay sounds low. Ask if they offer increases after 90 days, ect. If they can afford a car and stuff, they should pay more then 14 IMO.

Also- another odd note...

If you look under 25, it's a slim chance you'll get the job. It's illegal to not hire based on age, but I had it happen a bunch for jobs like this. It's going to be too expensive to insure a car for someone under 25.

Take the damn job. You can always quit if you find something better. It's not like you have to stay there.

Not as simple as that though. If I don't like it and quit I have to hope I can find another job that pays at least 11.75

What?

I'm saying take the job...stay there and work....and in the process of working....try to find a better job while you're still working.

Didn't realize you had another job.

Thought maybe you were one of the millions of other douchebags that are complaining they don't have a job and are being picky lol.
