I mounted my tv to the fireplace like a year ago and I am finally sick of looking at the wiring hanging across my mantle and down the side of my firebox. I am looking for suggestions on a wall plate, I ordered this one:

http://www.amazon.com/PYLE-HOME-PHDMIW6-Double-Wall-Plate/dp/B003KK64XE/ref=sr_1_15?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1291239411&sr=1-15

I want to run HDMI with a switch box, the RCA's, and not sure what to put in the component spot. I could put components, but not sure that I would use them? I have a computer and a DVD player hooked up to the tv now, thats it. Eventually would like a surround sound receiver with hdmi so I will only need 1 hdmi to the tv.

I am planning on running the female side of a black extension cord down through the ceiling so I don't need a power wall plate on the ceiling, along with the hdmi cable and a set of rcas and whatever else I put in that wall plate ( components? coax? )

I'm not the best with the audio video stuff since I hardly have time to watch TV, but I do want this set up right so I don't have to re do it in the future. Pardon the mess, we are in the middle or re-arranging. Wiring will go straight up into ceiling then down the left side of the chimney and wall plate will be near the floor. The Antenna will also be in the attic :)

You should post more pics of your house. You and your wife have some really nice ideas.

where are you going to mount that wallplate that you ordered? you should go to menards and check out their audio/video wallplates. You can buy the blank plates and buy individual pieces that fit into them, not something you wont use like the component cables. here is a though, ive seen in done before. how good are you with a grinder and cement tools? I have seen people cut a channel into the stone on the fireplace, run all the wires they need in the channel, then fill the channel back in with mortar. sounds like a lot of work, but you see nothing. you could follow your current mortar lines like a maze up to the ceiling.

if you have access to your attic above the fireplace, or the space above it whichever is the case you can run all your wiring up there for your speakers and everything. you don't have to have the receiver by the tv at all if you have access. I have a 35' svga cable running from my computer to my tv under the floor and back up, you could do the same and have the receiver anywhere you wish. You have tons of options for nice looking wallplates for speakers, or run wireless if you choose.

you can buy an adapter for your tv that allows you to stream wirelessly from your computer to your tv also, but not cheap. however no cables.

Like I said, I would suggest going to menards and looking at their audio video stuff. I bought a 7.1 wallplate setup that has hdmi and even an input for the subwoofer. can't beat their prices on the stuff, and they have some cool stuff.

I would fish it down from the ceiling. Build a shallow depth cover to hide the wires. I have seen it done a few times. It looks like a raceway but made of stone. And then you are not cutting into your fireplace.

Modular wall plates are nice I have used these.

They use a Keystone/Hubble jack, but are fine.

I wouldn't cut into the stone fireplace. Why damage it? Plus too much work! I agree tonfish the wires through the ceiling if at all possible. For a nice clean look why not use a wall plate on the ceiling and then plug your av items into that?

what would be the point of a wallplate on the ceiling? you would still see all the wires running up behind the tv which is what he is trying to eliminate. also, i didnt say cut the stone, use the mortar joints, you would never see it.

That's what I was gonna say. If it was on a surface that you could cut into (a wall) then you could just feed it into the wall and out at the base board. I would find something to sucure (pref. in the color of the brick or mortor) to hide the wires. Either that or I bet you could find a paint that you could maybe paint the wires.

Here is the after, antenna is in the attic now as well as the the power for the tv. I ran an extension cord down through the ceiling so if I do upgrade the TV I don't have to go in the attic to unplug it. I am going to make something to help hide the wires or possibly just wrap / paint them to blend in with the stone. Not sure which direction I will go yet, either way looks better then before.

Also in the corner where the wall plate is I bought a book shelf to put there and hide the computer / dvd player inside. We pick that up on Saturday.

You are running the tv off an extension cord? No surge protector?

No surge protector, never used one and never regretted it soo...

Here is the living room pretty much done, just have to repaint the base boards

And no the picture doesn't make it look bigger then it is, my living room is 27 x 14. Computer is now inside the book shelf at the bottom, and I got a blu-ray drive for xmas for the PC so no more dvd player needed. Time to upgrade the tv next.
