This kinda goes with Crawlin's thread....what is the widest tire you can fit on an 8" rim.....want to see if I can fit on a set of 275's on my stock rim or will I need to open my wallet and get the 9" rims

i think the most would be a 245/255 ? anything more would just look "bulgy" ? i'm not expert though. I thought some of the guys were putting 275 DR's on an 8" wheel though

I guess that would depend on the side-wall size too, but off hand a 265 75 r17 is about 9.5 inches wide and 31.5 inches tall. and i have no problem fitting 31 x 10.5 on my 8inch rims so i would say that a 275 would be just about as wide and should be fine on 8 inch rims

The rims are 17's....I am asking because I believe I saw a set on a stock mach1 that was for sale at a dealership in waukesha that had 275's on it.

what aspect ratio? i've installed 275's on the ole fox bodies...they fit but indeed look 'bulgey'

Nick guys do it with the GTO 17x8's. Some complain about the buldge, possible contact patch be affected, etc.. But imo I think it'd be fine. I know I'd take 275's on an 8" rim vs 245's.

Yeah, you can do it no problem.

when i was looking at tire/wheel options i ran into people running 275/60/15 M/T ET streets on 15x7's you should be fine.

IMO it would look like crap... PLUS there is one thing everyone is forgetting.

We aren't talking about fitting drag radials or slicks on here people. Nick is asking for a low profile, extremely stiff sidewall tire to go on there as well. IMO it wont work safely/correctly. Nick, IMO I would get wider rims.

I was just assuming cause he has Drag Radials on the car now that he is looking at getting another set of them.

but yeah if your getting just a good sticky street tire do a 255/265 or a wider wheel

Correct, I plan on putting a 275 performance tire on the front, probably a Nitto street tire.

I also looked into this for the same size 17x8 and I found out that a 265 is the widest tire that won't bulge. 275 will mount but will also bulge out. So I am going with a 265-40-17.

Each tire manufacturer will list a range of rim widths for any given tire size that they recommend.

That being said, a general rule of thumb for best tire performance is to keep your rim width about 1/2" smaller than your tires section width.

I wouldn't use a rim smaller than 10" with a 275.
