Do valve covers require high-temp resistant paint? Do they get hot enough to ruin regular paint?

I would use the hi-temp paint. That can of Rust-O-Leum ain't gonna cut it.

If you ever painted a set with Hi Temp the only thing is if you scratch them the paint will come off easily.

Who said anything about Rustoleum? I wasn't even thinking of using that. It was just something I was wondering about.

Idk I used 3-4 coats of the engine enamel and that shit dries pretty freakin thick. I've only had it flake off when the metal wasn't 1000% clean.

Thats a prep issue. I have used hi temp paint on valve covers all the time. Some paint is gas resistant, some paint washes away with fuel. I have always scuffed with red scotchbite, preclean, light coating of self etching primer and then a coat of VHT engine paint.
