The news said they will call the existing S. Milw location their "mining HQ" and if anything, this move will bring more jobs to the facility.

they should remain in Milwaukee....they want the product, doubt they want to relocate any manufacturing or clerical offices. Caterpillar is good at buying into a product category.

Didn't Bucyrus just buy Terex? I would think that's bad news for Terex, not Bucyrus. This should probably be good news.

I was wondering the same thing, Is it a good think for S. Milwaukee or bad? Anyone work there and have any employee insight?

I work at Bucyrus and I work in the Security Dept.... There are some unhappy employees that are worried about their Benefits... I think a new Union Contract is coming up also.

I've been reading the comments on JSOnline and it seems that every comment has something to do with politics. I don't think politics has anything to do with it.

But everything has it's Pro's and Con's and you can't make everyone happy.

BTW: I met to the (2) CEO'S myself today....

Wonder what P&H's plan of action is.

Mining customers buy CAT dump trucks, so it seems easier to go through the same company.

A friends mother worked at CAT in during the strike in the early 90s; six hours in the office and six hours in the factory.

Probably not much, Bucyrus just got more competitive for above ground mining, but P&H's other division still does underground mining machinery, which I don't think Bucyrus touches.

Bucyrus did buy only the mining division of Terex. This added dump trucks and hydraulic mining shovels to their almost complete line of mining equipment. Funny that CEO Tim Sullivan pushed a Caterpillar truck off the table and placed a Bucyrus truck in it's place during a webcast announcing the purchase of Terex.
Cat's purchase of Bucyrus is expected to be complete in mid 2011. Cat CEO says they will honor the current union contract that expires in 2 1/2 years. He also said that they will do whatever it takes to remain compettitive. That could mean anything. The new Bucyrus headquarters(the old Miwest Express building) in Oak Creek, will become the headquarters of Caterpillar Mining division. Bucyrus will remain.... Bucyrus.
The US loan guarranty was recently completed to give Bucyrus the green light on a huge order from India. We are working with a backlog and enough overtime to go around. My overtime is voluntary, and right now, I could work 7 days a week, 12 hour days. 84 hours a week. Wayyy too much for me. About 56 hours a week is enough.

Bucyrus bought DBT in 07 for underground mining.

P&H's mining division is on the east coast. Underground mining scares the HR rep in Milwaukee, haha.

And then there's the crazy Germans.
