Got a call around 1100 this morning from my Mom saying she was rear ended. She was less than a mile from home. I get to the scene and this is what I see. What's your opinion, totalled or not?

She got hit by some kid in a Jetta, Witnesses say he never even hit the brake pedal. Speed limit on S. 43rd Street is 25 miles per hour. How fast do you guys think he was going. This is what is left of his Jetta.

Yeah, it really sucks too. That was an immaculate 2005 Mercury Montego. It only had 23,000 original miles. :(

im sure he was on the phone or texting. Not paying attention at all. I am also guessing that he was going at least 40 if not 50 at impact. Not the 25 mph speed limit.

Probably wouldn't be able to do a new SHO. I WISH!!! Probably will make captain Dumbass pay for a nice low mile used 2008-2009 Taurus though.

Looks like he hit the brakes to me (look how the hood is pushed up from the nose diving under the rear of the other car). He was cruising pretty good though.

Or the car being slowed from the force of the impact, besides their designed to crumple that way.

First thing, let's hope the kid was insured, second, have your mom get to a doctor right away. You never know what problems are there, even if she's feeling OK.

Yes, I hope so too. She was transported to the ER by Greenfield Fire. We were not gonna take any risks. She is ok, but very sore right now.

I know right where that is, 43rd and Coldspring. And yeah, it looks totaled. Hopefully she's ok, that was quite a hit!

I doubt he was doing 50 but he could have been doing say 40. 40 mph is hauling when the driver doesn't even tap the brakes! That's a lot of force at impact. Glad your mom is ok. I wouldn't doubt at all he was texting. Can't tell you how many people I see in rush hour traffic texting!

, how do u not see someone stopped in front of u ??

Texting.
As much as I want to pit texters when I see them I know I cant, simply honking the horn next to them about sends them into oncoming traffic (innocent victoms).

yikes that looks pretty bad...glad she is ok...

so she was at a complete stop when dude hit her?

Yep at a complete stop. She was southbound on 43rd. When I got there the Jetta was laying in a pile of rubble at the stop sign :rolf and my mom's Montego was pushed all the way thru the intersection and up two houses from the corner. :wow

For those not familliar with this intersection it is basically 4 lanes wide with no median. So the force of the hit pushed her thru 4 lanes of traffic plus two whole houses south of the intersection. I am sure she let her foot slip of the brake but that is still nuts.

My brother did slightly more damage to the family Jetta years ago. He was going 65 in a 55 and nailed a car that was going about 25.

If your mother was stopped, the kid was going at least 30. If she was moving, add 30 mph to her speed to get that kind of damage.

If I only saw ur moms ride, I would say maybe 35, but after seeing the pic of the kids car, I'm inclined to go higher, 45-50?

I wonder if the back end of that car went up in the air.

Would not surprise me. When I got there, there was a small metal folding cart and a phone book laying in the intersection, both were in the trunk of the car. Not exactly the two smallest or lightest things in her trunk. :rolf Oh and when I got to the body shop, the Jettas grille was all the way in the back of her trunk.

She could hang that Jetta grill in her garage as a souvenir.

Wow did that thing get killed! Do these late model fords have that inertia switch yet that someone would have had to find and reset to make the car driveable again?
