I have a 13 year old cat, Superman, and I have noticed he is getting a bit thin. Not like skin and bones, or sickly, just seems like he no longer has that layer of fat he used to have in his younger days......he's otherwise healthy and active, but I'd really like to fatten him up a bit..........can any of you with animal knowledge recommend any foods or things for him?? Thanks.

Canned cat food (wet food) is always worth a try. What food are you currently feeding? You can also look for a higher calorie cat food.

If he isn't eating a lot of dry food, add some olive oil to the top. It will make it more appetizing to the cat and improve his coat.

Do you leave food out all day or set feedings?

I feed him Iam's digestive formula, and leave him a full bowl at all times, he seems to only eat a little at a time. Like a small handful. What canned food would you recommend??

I only feed wet food as a special treat (birthdays, holidays, etc.), so I haven't really done research on what is better. Iams should have their own line, so you could find something similar to what he already eats. I have a tendency to pick up the Fancy Feast little cans because they have many flavors to choose from.

I'll check out Iams wet food, or some fancy feast too..........just wanna get my little guy plumped up a bit. He's such a good boy, and I'm worried about him.

Watch some of that wet food and how much you give him. Treats are OK but not the steady diet of it. Otherwise you will have the smelliest poo in the litter box ever and kitty's breath won't be very pleasant, either.

Yeah.......Not too young anymore. 13 for a cat is pretty old, but my other one was 18. She died just a month ago, and it was one of the most painful experiences ever. The grief hasn't let up much, even after a month.

I might suggest going with Purina Indoor cat, My cat started on that since 4months. He's a chubby bastard. We found out that the Purina has ALOT of proteins and fat for a shiny coat, but some cats put on weight with it. Might be worth a try. Otherwise some of the wet foods are good, just check what they are actually made of.
