Went to Menards and use that automated propane exchange machine.. I put my card in, the door opened and when I pulled out the *filled* tank it felt very light.. VERY light..

Either way, I spent the $19.00 and went home.. When I pulled it from the trunk it again felt very light.. And I can't help but think these gas companys are just F****** us when we fill our tanks.. They put in just enough to make the grill burn for 5-6 dinners and then it runs out..

Anyone else ever feel this way?

I've had the same issue with the Menards in Franklin. I have a buddy that works at Hanna trailer so I just have him fill my tanks now.

Up here Kwik Trip is pretty much the cheapest for exchange, our local Ace Hardware does refills but the cost is about the same.

I heard they don't fill them all the way anymore at all places but I use charcoal so it don't bother Me.

I got an empty or near empty tank from Menards once. Luckily it was very noticable and I got it re-exchanged. I've gotten at least 3 more since that were normal weight.

Yea stay away from Menards. I use to work up front at west allies one(now work in the yard) I would be stuck filling that self help thing. And a lot of the tanks we got in see either half full or nearly empty. Only few seemed to be full. And a lot of the tanks. Have bunch rust(when the get tanks in not there color all they do is spray paint them company that brings tanks that is)

They do this on purpose. Propane is about 4.25lbs per gallon. You can only fill a propane vessel to 80%. So a 20lb cylinder can only be filled to 16lbs. Well, if you weigh a cylinder before and after you'll find you're lucky to get 15lbs.

So, you're getting roughly 3.5 gallons of propane when you exchange a 20lb cylinder. Propane, when it's expensive, is around $2/gallon. Now do you feel super-fscked?

My Dad refills his own.

The Wisconsin Department of Weights and Measures investigates this all the time. Most often they find that exchange tanks are not full enough. You are paying for the price of convenience, just like anything else. Pepsi costs about .05 cents a can to fill. You pay over $7.00 a case when its not on sale, same difference right? I get mine filled at a place in Fort, costs me $14 and its on a scale as its being filled.

Not really the same thing. Pepsi can mark their product up. Now if you were buying a case of pepsi and some of the cans were near empty half full and the rest full you could call up and complain and they would send you a coupon for a new case. Id say its more like pumping gas in your car and the pump is off. It says it puts in 10 gallons but really only puts in 8 and you still pay for the 10 gallons.
