Looking at getting DirecTV. Haven't had cable since I was in college and that was with a different company.

We have one HD TV, so I assume that one will get the digital HD box (and DVR). The other TVs we have are just your basic TVs, so do I need to get standard boxes for those? Or can I just use the cable wire to the wall mount?

I'm not interested in that whole-home DVR option.

see my sig.

DTV was really and honeslyt a horrible experience. We had really bad audio sync issues and DTV aknowledges the problem but could not solve it.

The picture is better, but not worth the hassles.

We have TWC, not in love with, but the syncing problem has gone and TWC is cheaper with a bundle and no lame 2 year contract. Any equipment upgrades automatically renew your 2 year contract with DTV which they do not tell you.

DTV does fail in bad weather, which to me, is when you want it the most.

I have no complaints with Dish Network, I have lost signal maybe 4 times in the last 3 years I've had it.

The thing is, ask around enough and you will find horror stories about every company, I would just look for price, I bet they're all gonna be about the same.

Guess we didn't really answer your question. For my dish setup I have the same thing, one HD and 1 regular. I have the dual tuner DVR they offer so my 2nd TV runs off the same receiver, it just plugs into the coax jack in the wall. They told me if I hook up more TVs I will need standard receivers for each additional, if they're not HD. I know you said you don't want the multiple DVRs (by that I mean multiple in one box, not a DVR box for each TV) but if they have a promotion going I would get them. I find myself recording to both DVRs quite often when I'm not home, but I work alot of nights when the good movies and shows are on.

Like catnhat my DTV experience was a horrible waste of 5yrs that ended with a $500 bill for a HD box I paid for at Best buy first and billed for when ending my service. Looking forward to slamming the door on any DTV solicitors who knock on my new house.

Into my 3rd yr or better with TWC for my HD sevice and internet Im looking at my TV with a crystal clear HD picture and streaming porn on my laptop all night without a glitch.

Well, being that I never had a bad experience with Direct TV, I miss it. I hate Time Warner's menu and glitchyness.

At the time, I felt that Direct TVs programming was better as well.

dish network includes free HD channels and I feel better prices than direct tv haveing both direct tv and dishnetwork they both suck in heavy rain, also with dish network one box controls two rooms instead of needing a box for each tv

I love Direct Tv I've had it for the last 8 years other than a short time we went for TWC. I had more outage time with TWC in theat time that the other 7 years of DTV combined

.

If I was critical I do hate the TWC delay during changing or selecting channels, like a 4 second delay and longer for me when trying to bring up a simple menu display.

As far as downtime I have had none that I remeber with TWC, DTV would go down with 15mn left in a football game or movie quite often back then, may be different now.

Not to be a pain in the ass but...
We've pretty much abandoned pay TV with the exception of Netflix. Unless you like to watch TV (and I don't think you do) dollar for the amount of entertainment, it's not worth it.

I concur, Lisa and I rarely watch tv as it is but with boxee.tv and netflix.com I think its silly to pay for TV even if thats all you do. Hell on boxee.tv the commercials are no longer then 45 seconds ( a good majority only 15 seconds ) and there is soo much to watch it would take months to cover everything. Plus its hella cheap, boxee.tv is FREE and netflix is less then 10 a month with streaming instant watch :thumbsup

DTV is great. Never had any signal issues. Going to dump dish network if they don't get this issue with fox6 and all other fox stations resolved like FSN WI.

One thing I warn about DirecTV, is watch yourself if you ever make changes to your service with them. They'll tack another year onto your contract, and in my experience either not tell you, or lie to you afterwards. I had no problems with their actual service but from an ethical standpoint they were one of the worst experiences I've ever dealt with. I would rather never watch TV again then go back to them.

WOW! :wow I would think keeping the original contract on hand should solve that issue though. If you dont sign it, its not a contract. I am not sure verbal would hold up in a he said/she said business/customer agreement but IDK for sure.

Do a search once on it and you'll find 10's of thousands of complaints on them doing this to people. Add a box, extends your contract, exchange a non hd-box for a hd box extends your contract, exchange a box cause you're having problems with your current box, add's a year, etc and rarely do they tell you this. They'll just tell you they said that when you call to question.

the straw the broke the back though was when they kept sending me things to combine with ATT. Called up to do it, they said they couldn't give me the "deal" but would give me a $5 credit per month. I asked, "no strings?" they said nope. 3 days later got a letter saying that by getting the $5 credit I extended my contract a year. I immediately called up and said cancel the credit, I refuse to extend my contract. After being tossed between ATT and DTV they said it was taken care of, I'd see a credit for a month, but there would be no contract extension. 2 months later, still saw the credit. Called up, they told me there was no way for them to reverse the contract extension. All they could do was remove the $5 credit. So they'll raise my price, but keep me in the contract. I raised holy hell. They didn't care. Had Dish Network installed 3 days later.

I've never been lied to so much by a company, by so many people.

See, that's my hesitation. I talked to them about a "satisfaction guarantee" and they said that I will be happy, but that I couldn't cancel the service even within the first week. I am locked into a 24 month agreement and if I cancel early, I am subject to a $20 a month fee for whatever is left in the contract. So stupid.

i love my directv. yeah i do lose signal in bad weather however thats what a dvr is made for. their customer service has always been very polite and fixed any issues i have had which has been very minimal in the 5 years i have had them. however if i had to choose i would have uverse but they don't offer it in my neighborhood.

Yep cost me $160 to buy out my "contract" that should have ended over 2 years prior. But the money I saved going to Dish Network made up for it. I get all the channels I want, for less.
