So I left work to get food and I hop on the freeway by pettit center well about 30 seconds later car starts smoking so I get off and drive back to pettit where I work and look under hood and it looks like someone took a bucket of water and splashed it under my hood. Smells like coolant. Thanks to Yoo for giving me advice who can fix it. I was suppose to take it to him tomorrow to get detailed. I owe him a few beers and wings some night.

You sure it is a head? What about just a coolant leak somewhere else?

^ Am with him. Just fill her up with water and get a pressure tester on it. That will tell the true story. GL

Honestly not really sure. I looks like to much fluid to be a leak. The whole under side of the car is wet engine bay all wet and you can see lots of fluid where i drove.

DOHC or SOHC?
Those dohc Cobras and Lincolns have silly upper hose leaks, has to be bled right to.
Just sold my DOHC head/ timing tools too :(

That will happen with a simple leak. A pressure test will tell all. I think there is a good chance you may have a simple fix on your hands. If you had that much coolant pushing out the head gasket, there would be no mistaking where the issue is.

It was pretty dark and I didnt see any hoses that were loose. Anyone want to meet me at the Pettit Center tomorrow and help me out? haha.

Did you just jump on the car on the on ramp, and did it drive normal back to the Pettit?

Is this a procharger kit?

I will be pretty busy with work tomorrow, but if you need help later in the day give me a call. 414-429-2677

I didnt give it 100% throttle but I did jump on it a little. Yes drove normal back to pettit. From what I could tell the temp didnt rise at all. Now I am wondering if I should tow it out to Marv or not.

Correct me if I'm wrong but, if the blown head gasket were the case you would be blowing tons of white smoke out of your exhaust.

Did you happen to notice any?

I'd pressure test it.

any foam under the oil cap? Usually thats a cheap indicator.

There was white smoke everywhere. Under hood and out exhaust.

Found out the problem. You guys are right. A hose popped off. The reserve tank is empty but has sludge on the bottom of it. There is also a bunch of oil on the valve covers. Should I tow it or can one of you guys help me out?

Now you have to wonder if there is a reason the hose came off. Still could be a head gasket issue. I would take it to a shop to have it looked over, there is only so much you can do in a parking lot.

Fix the hose, full the coolant and limp it home. Pressure test it.

Don't forget to properly bleed the system to get all of the trapped air out. You can F up a good engine if you dont.

Your not kidding, those dohc crossover pipes love to hide air and overheat.
We talked on phone and explained correct way today, hope it works out cuz
the first thing 4.6's do is force hoses off when combustion hits coolant :(

How do u bleed the system? I'm at work today and out of town till next thursday. Looks like it will sit until then

Fill it thru the crossover pipe, has the 3/8" hex a ratchet fits into, fill until it brings the open resevoir up above the "cold" mark, close resevoir. Dont open the resevoir ever again, everything is done thru crossover (a small funnel works great pushed in tightly).

Let idle and crack the hex plug and watch air bubbles come out. Drive and repeatedly crack crossover until your 100% sure only water comes out. Dont open resevoir, the coolant system on the car should never have been equiped with a cap on resevoir.

Wow that is a funky spot for the alternator. To the OP good luck hopefully that's all it needed and nothing else like the headgasket.

dude, get it over to marv's. its clear you don't know what you're doing with your car (nothing wrong with that). just get it to marv and he'll let you know what's wrong with it, if anything. or you can try to diagnose it/fix it in a parking lot and f' things up a lot worse.
