With the cams welded, you are in good shape already. The transmissions would be something to watch for (I would say the same for any car with over 100k on it) - check the fluid for color, smell, and level. The V8s have a nice sound stock, but even better with a little change in mufflers. We put fake-flowmasters on our '96 and I love it.

V8 gas mileage isn't the greatest, even though it's a small V8 (3.4L). Adam gets 23/24 with mostly freeway driving. I tend to get worse with it since I like to hear the secondaries open.

They are super comfortable for long drives. I picked up the '96 in Atlanta and drove it straight up. We've also made a trip to NC with it to meet up with some friends. In NC, our friend welded on the new mufflers for us and we put lowering springs on. It loved the mountains on the way back! Handled quite well for the big car that it is.

Engine maintenance isn't the cheapest, like coil packs. If you can handle doing your own labor, I think you'll be fine. Parts are a little more expensive, but things tend to take longer to replace because there isn't a lot of room in the engine bay.

Any specific questions, let me know.

That particular car has some history, and obviously has been repainted. Younger guy owns it now, so I am not sure how well the paint quality is. Never looked at it in person, but have read his threads on SHOforum.

Before he bought it:

I drove the '96 to a couple pet stores this morning and I was reminded of one more thing - ball joints. Some V8s tend to go through them faster than others, but I haven't figured out a pattern on that yet. clunk... clunk... clunk....

V8 was 96-99.

Cams welded is a big "must do". So if its done that helps.
