Just bought a 99 Jetta and it has a check engine light on, my generic obdII reader doesn't come up with anything so I assume its a VW specific code. Car runs fine, which is why I still bought it.

Anyone have a code reader that could pull the code?

Thanks.

I have one but I have never tried a vw. It isd supposed to pull generic and factory codes. We can try it if you want. Have you tried Autozone? They pull em free too.

Well they were able to get it, thanks for the tip. its the evap emissions code P1476, sounds like I start at the gas cap and work my way to the more $$ stuff.:goof

Gas cap seal and purge solenoid were the suggestions. If I remember right, at least I have the code now.

We wanted to get another key and of course no hardware stores cut them and the VW dealer wants $250 + labor to program the fob. Apparently all VW prices start with grabbing your ankles:rolf

Oh yes they do....If you have any other issues with the check engine light, let me know. I purchased the vcds program that hooks the cable and laptop up to the car and runs a full diagnostic.
