Ford came in with the newest Taurus Police Interceptor and Explorer.. Guess they are taking these all over in hopes of getting the business since the Crown Vic is done next year..

Boy were these nice!

My only complaint is they just aren't big enough.. These modern cars have the cockpit built around the driver.. Problem is, the driver is wearing a gun belt, vest, radio, ect and that adds like 4 inches to either side of your hips.. And a cockpit that is built around you and then you toss in radios and computers just makes that ideal cockpit just too small.. I hate to say it but the old CV just has more room..

Dunno what the chief is thinking.. We will see though.. We add about 40 cars a year to the fleet so what ever we get will be coming soon..

Sorry but all I had was the iPhone for pics..

And then we had 2 brand new CVs there which, frankly, looked tired compared to the new ones..

If you guys get a chance you should all tell Flynn to spring for the AWD Ecoboosted Taurusceptor :rolf 367 HP and AWD. I wish we would have been working in the building instead of the dumb alternate site. I'd have come checked them out myself....:fire

Dodge had a Charger at the station for us to drive a few weeks ago.. Was great cuz people got to take it out and write a review on it.. :3gears:

But Ford were little girls about it and didn't let us drive them.. :(

Were they the ecoboost model Taurus?

Did you get to take any of them for a test drive seeing as you are the ones whos opnion really matters cause you would be the ones using them?

Very cool. Saw these on the Jalopnik Great American Cop Car Shootout article: http://jalopnik.com/5644083/the-great-american-cop-car-shootout

Looking at the pics, it looks like they may have gotten rid of the console shifter in favor of the tree shifter after all. This was a major thing mentioned in the article.

How can you not let your customer test drive the vehicle?

I was just going to asked if you got to drive it. Too bad they didnt let you probably figure you would see how much the car sucks and then they would lose buisness.

Very cool pictures thou, thank you for sharing. :thumbsup

Yeah, my roommate showed me his cell pics of the Charger. He seemed really impressed with it.

Probably because the car isn't completely finished from what I understand, few more changes will be made before its done. Though it would have been nice of them to let you drive what they already have...

Wonder if GM is stopping by with the PPV Caprice? The below article says it has front seats designed for having room to accomodate the belt built into them. Looks like these may be your answer to more room? And they dont have a column shifter with more bends than the exhaust system.

I believe one of the biggest complaints is that they don't have a column shifter. Not enough room for equipment.

Well, The Taurus and Explorer Interceptors are being crash tested just like the Crown Vics were. They can both withstand a 75 MPH rear impact. The Dodge and Chevy I really don't know.

As for the Chevy, yes the most complained about part of the whole car at this point in its development is the Floor shift. Column shifts may look dumb but in a cop car they are a MUST.. Just way too much gear to fit in between the seats.

Chevy screwed up big big time by putting a floor shift in there. If they put a column shift in their car they would own the market. A FWD Taurus is never going to hold up. It's going to be too costly to maintain.

Exactly!! I wonder why Ford exec's didn't figure that one out. Build the car out of a chassis and engine they already have :chair:

No problem, There are two sitting back there, with only decals no equipment inside at all. I wonder if they will end up being fully marked or slicktops. Too bad they are 6 cylinders though. :crying
