Does anybody know about older BMW's?? My neighbor (older gentleman in his late 80's) has been storing a 1986 BMW 325 for his sons friend for the last 5-6 years. The guy has been contacted for last couple of years to take the car. But the guy has made no attempt to pick it up or even call back my neighbor. Last week he asked me if I knew anyone that wanted it, I said I wanted it. Otherwise his kids were gonna have it towed the junkyard and he didnt want that. So now I have it in my yard. Does anybody know where the VIN is on these things? I have looked and can't find it by the windshield and the rest of the body/interior. How should I go about getting a title for this thing? Any suggestions? It is a really sweet little car.

cool deal but i would think the guy could say it was stolen and you might be able to get in trouble for having it.. technically its not you neighbors car to give away.. hope it all works out and you do get to keep it. looks like a nice car.

I know... I'm gonna try to contact the guy to see if he really wants it or not. I did find the VIN number.. It was on the door well. It was in little dots. I hope the guy wants nothing to do with it either..

Those are cool cars. The VIN should be on the drivers side of the dashboard under the windshield.

Don't do a thing to that car until the ownership is straightened out.

Does carfax give owners names? I've never ran one before.. Or should I go to the DMV?

Isn't there some kind of law where if something sits on your property for a certain amount of time its considered yours? I thought I heard that before?

yeah, i believe it's 6months. but you have to have it posted to the public for the person to remove it.

Is there any info about that online.. I have been looking on the DMV website and cant find anything about abondoned cars or anything like that.

just apply for the title and if his past actions are any indications of what he might do, that title will be yours soon enough. all he needs to to do is not respond iirc.

Nice score....hope it works out where you get to keep it. With a little leg work I'm sure you will, sure doesnt' seem like the "owner" really gives a crap about it. Wish I could get a car this way!

You need to file paperwork with Madison first, wait 6 months and its yours.
VIN is in door jams on old German (and American) cars.

My dad and uncles are BMW guys. So if you get the title and need any good BMW shops locally I can get you some info.

Best bet is to contact an attorney. You will have to bond it with the state and alot of other headaches that take a ton of time if you don't know what you are doing. Easier to pay an attorney if the car is worth it.
