Had to have my beagle put down today. He was only a little over a year old. Had a degenerative heart condition so we knew he wouldn't make it long. Didn't think I was going to get this attached to the guy. But how could you not...

Awww Bummer. Its amazing how fast we get attached to pets. Unconditional love form an animal is the best. Sorry for your loss.

Not sure if it helps but putting your 14yr old dog down after literaly growing up with your 4 kids is extremely tough, Harley the wonder dog was cool as hell.

Sorry man, it is tough, that's for sure. I truly feel your pain.

We just put down a 18yr old (+/-) cat 2 weeks ago.

We had her since we were kids. It was tough to have it done but she had thryoid disease and her body was literally consuming itself.

It had to be done. :(

Some people may say it was only a cat but she was more than that. She was a part of our family for almost 20yrs. She was a great friend and will be dearly missed.

Dam that sucks! If you're looking for a new dog we're getting rid of our female black/tan miniature dachshund Daisy.

Sorry to hear about the lost of your pooch. Animals are amazing on how attach we can get in a short amount of time. When I got my dog she wasnt eating or drinking. I took her back to the humane society and I started balling when I saw her food dish and thought she wouldnt come back home. Lucky she turned out fine and came back home the next day.

sorry to hear you had to put your dog down. We had to put ours down last year from of all things cancer after her being with us for 14 years. I couldnt stop crying for a few days and still get choked up when I see her pictures.

the death of a pet will make the strongest of men cry, wierd how that works. Sorry for your loss, it's never easy.

sorry for your loss. no matter how old or young, it's always your pup, and it's always like a son or daughter.

stay positive knowing he'll always be right by your side cause you gave him the best year as you possibly could

Wow, sorry to hear that! Having two beagles, and Columbo being tri color and looking very similar to your boy there... I don't even know what I'd do in that situation. Of course what's best for the dog, but I can believe it was hard! Hopefully you'll look into adopting another beagle boy! :)

They don't call dogs "man's best friend" for no reason. Very few things would make me cry but losing my dog would definitely be one of them.

For as much as I see my dog, I consider her even more family than my extended family.

Man that's tough.. my dog just turned a year old too. Mine is a Puggle which is a beagle/pug mix. She just figured out her nose and runs around the yard like a beagle. I had a beagle before her too.

So sorry for your loss. My cat is close to 18 years old, and I can see every day that she is getting closer and closer to death.......I would guess that within a few weeks, she will be leaving me. I have had her for nearly 16 years, and it is breaking my heart to watch her slowly drifting away. I hope you have some good memories of your little furry buddy, and maybe you will find another one soon. Best wishes to you.

He was only a little over a year old..
It's hard regardless of the age, but I've never done anything harder than put down an 8 month old puppy and staying there for the little guy. My condolences on your lost :(

Thanks for all your thoughts, I appreciate it. I guess the hardest part is that he was so young. Part of me wants to replace him right away, while another just wants to be alone... That pic I posted of him was taken the morning we had to take him in, it was like he knew. I miss him a ton already, especially on nice days where he would just run around in the back yard for hours on end without a care in the world.
